IX Encounter of Artists

EL DORADO

The Amelia Moreno Foundation is located in El Dorado, a former anis liquor factory in the town of Quintanar de la Orden, in the heart of La Mancha. Every September we organize the Encounters of Artists, celebrations of contemporary art animated with contemporary poetry, music, performance, theater, debate, etc.

RETROSPECTIVE OF AMELIA MORENO

Our IX Encounter of Artists will be held for two weeks beginning on Saturday, September 15, 2012. Instead of offering a collective show of works by various artists as in past years, this year the Encounter is dedicated to a retrospective of the work of the Foundation's founder, Amelia Moreno, who died last September. We present works from all her creative periods, many never before show in Spain. The exhibition launches a traveling retrospective that will be shown in the principal cities of the Castilla – La Mancha region and in Madrid. During the weekends, we offer a concert of contemporary music and a night of poetry and conversation around the themes of Amelia and her art. We are organizing a children's creative workshop and, as in previous years, visits by groups of schoolchildren from all of the primary and secondary schools in the area.

THE ENCOUNTERS CONTINUE

Amelia was the visionary, vital force and behind this project during its eight previous editions. Succeeding her but not taking her place, the IX Encounter is being organized by her husband, David Cohn, who worked with her in past editions, together with the help of the board of directors, local institutions and many volunteers.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

As this year of crisis has seen many public grants for the arts disappear, we are offering the community that Amelia has created around the Encounters the opportunity to help make this one a reality, We hope to bring together many small contributions from people in the region, in Madrid and the rest of Spain, and from around the world.

Together with a small grant from the provincial government (still open and pending approval), the funds will be used for the costs of the concert, to print the program and poster that we distribute in the town, by mail, and to visitors and school groups, and for costs of transportation, installation, etc.

WE ARE NON-PROFIT

The budget for the Encounters has always been very modest, following a policy of political and ethical responsibility in the use of public funds that Amelia established from the very beginning. For the IX Encounter, we have logically had to cut the budget to an absolute minimum, but to do so we will have to count on the disinterested collaboration of many people who, in better times, we would have liked to pay for their time and expenses. Everyone involved in preparing the Encounter works on a volunteer basis, and we meet many expenses out of our own pockets. The Foundation is officially recognized as a non-profit institution, and all the funds collected will be used exclusively for the Encounter. Funds donated to the Foundation count as charitable contributions (depending on local legislation).
