The project

Patricia García Gil and Fabio Morelli met in Florence, thanks to art. SHE is a pianist and an actress, HE is a geologist, an actor and a videomaker.

The stage has been the source of inspiration for both to incessantly experiment innovative collaborations between different fields to share bigger emotions.

But… what do a pianist/actress and a geologist/actor/videomaker (help!!!) do together?? They just want to share with you a story plenty of music and images, people and countries, creation and evolution.

During the concert tour that will take them through Italy, Holland and China, they will talk to you about the Fortepiano and the splendid music that…-oh, wait...do you know what the Fortepiano is? Ok, it seems to be an instrument, you are right! Is it a string instrument? Or a wind instrument? Maybe percussion? Actually, it is both string and percussion! And what if we tell you that it is the ancestor of the modern Piano? Basically, we can’t talk about two different instruments but one that had evolved and developed throughout the history. Fortepiano was the actual instrument that the greatest composers got to know Mozart and Beethoven got to know, for which their genius music was conceived. And... Guess where it was born. In Florence! What a piece of luck! Our trip begins here!

What we want to do

This time we want to showcase the world of Fortepiano.

Patricia, will perform Fortepiano throughout a concert tour from Italy (Zeffirelli Foundation of Florence) and Holland (Geelvinck Festival) to Hong Kong (Baptist University), where she will also record for the National Radio.

We would like to take advantage of the trip to make a short documentary about the history, the technique, the music style and philosophical concept of the instrument to promote its value and the importance of deepen our knowledge of it.

By telling you one of our stories, choosing the right characters to make it fun and easy to follow, we will contextualize the Fortepiano as the icon of the “enlightened” artists who wanted to move the audience through representations of its own humanity, inspiring goodness: every human is equal and all of them have the right to appreciate and have access to art.

We will explain that the most important pieces from the classical music repertoire (composed for Clementi, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Brahms…), were born and conceived for the intimate and subtle sound, discreet but distinct, of the Fortepiano.

We will look into the differences of the music-making world (either in education and professionally) between the East and the West, to observe why classical music in Asia has emerged stronger than in Europe.

We will also interview experts from the field with the aim of making our video useful to stablish long-term collaborations for exchanging ideas.

HERE YOU HAVE SOME EXAMPLES OF THE "ORIGINAL SOUND" OF MUSIC:

FORTEPIANO "Schantz" Sonata de W.A. Mozart
FORTEPIANO "Lange" Sonata de M. Clementi
FORTEPIANO "Pleyel" Ballada de F. Chopin
FORTEPIANO "Stein" Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Schumann

What are we using your support for?

Art is important for everyone; it is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires; the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully portrayed by words alone. Its impact can change our inner self and also society.

While centuries ago art was restricted for a privileged elite, after the opening of the first public museums and the use of the first mass media such us press, books or magazines during the XVIII century, “the age of Enlightenment”, the participation of society in art has progressively widen until nowadays. By virtue of the internet and the social networks, now we have the chance of making art accessible to everyone.

With your support, you will be part of this great mission, helping us to cover the travel costs, flights, hotels, meals, material, organization of the event, publicity…(not to mention the amount of working hours to preparing the concerts or editing the documentary!)

At the moment, culture is not receiving the necessary funding to reach everyone, if a helping hand is not coming from people like you.

What we do and who we are

Florence is an overwhelming city. The art that invades their ancient walls make us feel very lucky to live here. The beauty of the city has even moved us to dedicate Her a watercolor-illustrated short video-story to discover the origins of the rocks that decorate the facades of the Duomo. Here you are the link of it, if you are wondering about our videomaking style!

En esta ciudad no solo hemos compartido el arte que nos rodea, también hemos representado varias obras teatrales en algunos de los teatros que la enriquecen y la mantienen tan viva.

Florence is the cradle of Fortepiano hosting a unique place in the world, the Bartolomeo Cristofori Academy, where more than 150 original instruments have been restored and are being part of a big collection of enormous historical value. The most impressive thing is that these Fortepianos are playable, and not only part of an exhibition like they usually are, making possible the reunion of music with its original sound.

Patricia is one of the blessed musicians that have the opportunity of performing regularly in that prestigious and magic place! But not only, Florence is a generous city and has granted Patricia to perform in other wonderful historical halls like Palazzo Vecchio, the old residence of the Medici.

-Fine, fine… Patricia is very “brava” (like Italians say) but…could we go back to the couple?? Where has Fabio ended up? Ah, here he is!

Fabio is passionate about science, theatre and cinema, that somehow have make him becoming a videomaker. He loves recording others and himself! For work and for hobby, indoors and outdoors, in the city and in the countryside, in the mountain and by the sea…basically, either way and everywhere. The reason is that he loves to share stories.

We have talk a lot about Florence but we also like to create these video stories about other places! Together we run a video blog to distribute some of topics that we consider interesting…
