About the Tokororo Project, its history and the album’s
My name is Doudou Nganga and my aim is to transmit the culture that raised me through art, from millenary African roots to modern world that make today Congo and Kinshasa, a country and a city torn apart by wars created by the appetite of our world for the wealth of its soil.
I will integrate in the album this melting pot which is my life: from Congo where I was born to Europe and Spain where I live. The 8/10 songs that will be part of the disc tell universal stories in Lingala, my mother-tongue, and 1 or 2 will be in French.
In order to produce a disc of great professional quality Eric Rousselbin Dura (my agent), Juan Casas Navarro with Julio Valdeolmillos of Shark Estudios, enter link description here, will assist in the realization.
The American photographer Phil Solomonson, enter link description here and enter link description here, will document with photos the journey of the project.
Our dear friend Nico Vietti, enter link description here, will take charge of the design for the graphic material of communication for the project.
We have established that only a budget of 5450€ will enable us to record and produce a work of art with the greatest professional and artistic quality, to pay the musicians and promote in part the album.
The most adequate and sustainable solution to realize that is to appeal to your collaboration and financial support for the project in the form of either free donation or with rewards that we can offer you as a patron.
Who am I? My story
I am a Hispano-Congolese artist and musician, born in Kinshasa and currently living in Valencia, Spain.
I graduated from fine Arts in Kinshasa (Republic Democratic of Congo). I obtained a grant to further my studies in Spain, at the University of Valencia (2003).
From then on I have dedicated myself to transmit through all forms of Art the culture that raised me and made me a human being: with the aim of sharing and getting Africa closer to Europe through African culture with its music and dancing I impart educational workshops in schools and associations and showcase my music.
My aim is to offer a deeper insight into this melting pot between millenary African roots and modernity.
Tokororo the album
I wanted to integrate all those encounters that have shaped my life in a new and vaster work.
The title Tokororo refers to the tocororo, a magnificent bird endemic to Cuba that doesn’t survive very long in captivity and is therefore a symbol of freedom.
And freedom in my artistic and life path has been a road of many turns, love stories and up-and-downs to eventually find oneself again, cure the scars of the soul until a new metamorphosis.
The letter -K in the title is an homage to my Bantu roots.
Production and recording
This new work also reflect of a family and friendships history, of new roots added to the ancient ones.
I will be more than lucky to count on wonderful artists and musicians, some of the most sought after in Valencia and further:
Mariano Steimberg (enter link description here), Ales Cesarini (enter link description here), Carlos Medina (enter link description here), Ibu Gueye (enter link description here), Bobby Lycantho (enter link description here), Luca Bordonaro (enter link description here), Jason Faust (enter link description here)...
