Defying gravity...

This dream of weightlessness that classical dance has always pursued gives title to my first ballet class music album. Providing music support to the dancers for their ballet class is a job which needs precision and a regular rhythmic sense. However, what would be a ballet class without an inspiring music which brings an imaginative and dreamer mood to the routine exercises.

In my first album I have tried to give my part of fantasy by collecting the music which, over over throughout my years of experience, has inspired my work with dancers. I hope you will find in the music I chose the mutual understanding moments I could share with the dancers with whom I have had the pleasure of working during the last years… What a joy to see how a movement that could be routine becomes beautiful helped by the impulse and inspiration of music!

Music…

In my first album I have decided to give a lot of variety in music styles.

The classic ballet repertoire will have a place of honor in the two Adage. But the music theater will share the main place with some jazz standards, film music… In fact, the title of the album, Defying Gravity, is the title of a song from the musical Wicked which i have chosen for the Pliés.

I have wanted the music chosen to be a reflection of my work as a ballet accompanist. I have always thought that all music can become the germ of a movement. Therefore I have tried not to reject any music the opportunity to sound in a ballet class.

So who knows, maybe, it is going to be a funny and pleasant album to listen to, even outside of the context for it was created to!

Dance arrived suddenly in my life and since the beginning I fell in love. That is why I moved to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de musique et dance de Paris (CNSMDP), where I studied some years of choreographic accompaniment.

In Paris I could work in different conservatories and dance schools. But in 2020, in the middle of the covid crisis, I had the great opportunity to become the pianist in the Ballet de l’opéra national du Rhin, under the direction of Bruno Bouché.

In this ballet, a part from the beautiful people I met, I could work with a lot of different ballet masters, with very varied styles and backgrounds… so I could learn a lot!

But, I also had the chance to be part of some shows with the dancers: Les Ailes du Désir from Bruno Bouché, ballet who has been played recently in the Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris); Danser Schubert au XXIe sciècle choreographed by the dancers of the company; Alice by Amir Hosseinpour and Jonathan Lunn with world premiere of Philip Glass' music, played with the Orchester symphonique de Mulhouse under the direction of Karen Kamensek.

Making an album is not possible without the involvement of indispensable people. I express my gratitude to them for their job and help.

Marc Guerris held the technical part and the postproduction. Without him It would not be sound.

Clara Cortadelles, has held the graphic design. Without her It would not be image.

Watching Julia Weiss dance was always a pleasure. When I left the Ballet de l’opéra national du Rhin, she gave me the drawing which became the image of the album. Without her it would not be drawing.

Anna Karina Enriquez-Gonzalez is a gorgeous Venezuelan dancer. She gave me some of the exercises that I put to music and they ended up being part of the record. Without her it would not be movement.

I would not want to forget Pep Solórzano, director of the Conservatory of Vila-seca. Thanks to him I could record my album in the amazing Auditori Josep Carreras in Vila-seca last april.

The collected money will be earmarked in funding the whole production: recording and postproduction, graphic design, digital distribution and preparation of the album with the record company Duplicat.
