WHAT IS THE GIANT AND THE MERMAID?:
"Remember when you were a child that closed your eyes and wanted something so hard then would enable... That is the magic."
"The giant and the mermaid" is a new short film of award-winning filmmaker Roberto Chinet. A magical story about the thin line that separates life from death. A fantastic short films, winner of the best prize project in the 18th Short Films Week Madrid in 2015.
The films will be shot in November in the Canary Islands and this crowdfunding campaign will help to complete the funding and make it happen.

SINOPSIS:
In middle of the night, Mark begins his adventure: get room No. 23 without anyone seeing, with the sole intention of reading a story to a woman who is in a deep coma. But the task is not easy for an eight-year-old leukemia patient with an amputated leg and wheelchair.
HOW IS THE GIANT AND THE MERMAID?
A magical story about the thin line that separates life from death."The giant and the mermaid" is the synthesis of the fantastic imagery that led me on the journey of adolescence. Eighty films as "Willow", "The Neverending Story", "The Goonies" or some Tim Burton film "Big Fish" are a source of inspitación for this short film.
Talk about death from the magical realism has become a hallmark part of my filmography and some scripts I've written. A theme that continued in "The giant and the Mermaid" more clearly, using tools of contemporary tale to apply them in a fantastic short drinking from other genres such as the thriller and drama.
"The giant and the Mermaid" is a circular story mixing the views of his characters
and it raises the viewer several ways to understand the film, offering an open end to the imagination.
CAST:
Leo Ramal
Very young 7 year canary actor who has participantes in several comercial. Leo was chosen from more than 300 canaries children presenting to the casting. "The giant and the mermaid" is his film debut.
Aïda Ballmann
Aïda is an actress born on the island El Hierro with German origin. Talented and large expressive eyes, she speaks Spanish, German and English. As an actress is characterized by its multifaceted and international characters, the result of a multidisciplinary training in the world of acting, circus and the arts. Debut as a leading actress in the film "The extraordinay Tale". For her work she received several awards and honors for best actress. She has also worked in several Spanish series of prime time as "El tiempo entre costuras", "Lo que escondían sus ojos" y "Águila roja", and the Spanish film "Deconstructing light" and the German production "Lebwohl Paradies".

Antonio de la Cruz
Antonio is a very charismatic both its physical canary actor, measures two meters and ten centimeters, for his affable character. DIRECTOR, SCREENWRITER AND EDITOR: Roberto Chinet
Roberto holds a degree in direction and screenplay for The Film Studios Centre of Catalonia. There he completed his studies with a postgraduate degree in film post-production. With extensive experience in the audiovisual sector, he has worked as an audiovisual technician, editor, advertising creative and director in film and television in Barcelona, Madrid and Tenerife.
He has also written several feature film scripts, getting twice the scholarship CANARY WRITING LABORATORY (LEAC).
He has directed, written and produced more than half a dozen short films and documentaries that have been selected in many national and international festivals, emphasizing: "Novilunio" (2009), funded by ICAA and Audience Award-RTVE Radio3; and "Star" (2014), special jury mention at the 5th Short Film Festival Iberoamericano ABC and Audience Award "San Rafael in 2014 short".
Presently living in Tenerife, where he has worked in recent years as a specialist teacher in Image and Sound of secondary schools and teacher script in the Literary School of the Canary Islands. Activities that has combined with the development of the feature film "Another island" the documentary "Amaro Pargo" and the short film "The Giant and the mermaid". He is cofounder of the audiovisual production Novilunio Music and Films.
In the last Short Film Week Madrid, he won the Best Project Award for his screenplay "THE GIANT AND THE MERMAID". The film will be produced by Novilunio Music and Films, JR Producciones and PapayaNaranja and filmed during november in various locations of the island Tenerife and El Hierro.

Omar is born in La Laguna, in 2012 co-founded the PapayaNaranja startups and becomes responsible for the image of the company. Miguel was born in Tenerife. He graduated in Assembly, postproduction and sound for film schools barcelona Bande À Part and CECC.He is cofounder and head of sound department of the audiovisual production PapayaNaranja.
He has worked in sound department in the Hollywood blockbuster "Jason Bourne" and the feature film "The Project 12: The Bunker". It has also been soundman in various Spanish reality show for channels Cuatro, Antena 3, La Sexta and Telecinco. His ears will be captured the magical sounds of "The giant and the mermaid".

Ivan Capillas is a composer and orchestra director, born in Sabadell. Specializing in music for film and audiovisual. With extensive experience, he has composed the original soundtrack of four films, twenty short films and two documentaries. His compositions have led him to be nominated for the prestigious Hollywood Music in Media Awards and awarded the Award of Excellence, the Gold Award (The Prestige Award), the Award of Excellent (The Indie Fest Awards) and the Award of Merit (The Accolade Awards), all in California, US has also received the award for best soundtrack at the Dunes Fuerteventura Film Festival. He is currently preparing the soundtrack of the Hollywood blockbuster "Ethyrea: Code of the Brethren".

ARTISTIC DIRECTION: Anatael Pérez
Anatael Productions is the mark using this multidisciplinary artist born on the island of La Palma. With imperturbable smile and a dreamy look. In his workshop he creates its particular universe that has been painted, dressed and decorated many audiovisual productions on the islands. His work with Cándido Pérez de Armas in the characterization and creation of creatures star in his short films "Änima" and "MinAa" are an example of his incredible work. MAKEUP AND COSTUME DESIGN: Dailos Gonher
Dailos Gonher, is a multifaceted artist born in El Hierro who specializes in makeup and costume design. His great work on the characterization of the costumes in "Änima" and "MinAa" by Cándido Pérez de Armas, endorse him. He will be responsible for creating some of the magic of "The Giant and the mermaid."
UNDERWATER PRODUCTION: The Ocean Brothers
Pinilla del Rosario brothers, Armando and Francisco, form an interdisciplinary team specialists in underwater audiovisual production. From the island of El Hierro have had much media attention for his work, getting several national and international awards, highlighting the awards at the prestigious International Film Festival Submarine San Sebastian, 2013. The Ocean Brothers will be responsible for recording the sequences underwater short film.

Assistant Director: Jonathan Gonzalez
Jonathan is a restless and charismatic director, who in addition to having directed several short films and music videos, has been assistant director on numerous shorts working with leading directors such as Ivan Lopez or Cándido Pérez de Armas.
Photography assistant: Gabriel García
Gabriel is an audiovisual technical and creative versatility, director of photography and camera operator several short films, such as "Vulnerables" and "We are Nobody" among others. Imaginative and great companion of battle, with many hours of shooting at his back, will be undoubtedly an "ace" in the staging and photography of the film.
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?
The project already has "Best Project Prize of the 18th Short Film Week Madrid". Three awards postproduction:
*"Aracne Digital" Award *: Mastered DCP including the first digital copy.
*"Sound Cuts" Award *: Sound editing, recording and dubbing premixes.
*"Elamedia" Award *: Postproduction image (editing room, color correction and master copy DCP).
We also hace the support of the Cabildo de El Hierro and participate in grants from the Government of Madrid and the Cabildo de Tenerife.
The money of your contribution will be used entirely to support and care to maximize production, ensure a professional finishing and to meet the demands of the script and story. This crowdfunding will represent approximately 20% of the total budget and, among other things, will be dedicated to cover some of the following:
Rental of technical equipment (lighting, sound and photography).
Rental of artistic equipment (props, sets, special clothing).
Catering, Transportation, travel and overhead costs in the logistics of filming.
ESTIMATED DATES
This project is in the process of pre-production. The filming will take place in the month of November. Then we`ll move to post-production in the same month and during December and January 2017. The release of the film will take place in March at the Malaga Film Festival.
The rewards will begin shipping after the premiere of the film in March.
