Dear patrons... THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
We've reached our initial funding goal of €40,000. We've secured a theatrical release, but we can't stop there. We're setting a new goal to fund a powerful promotion that will help us reach even more people.
OUR NEW GOAL IS € 55,000.
With this additional contribution, we'll be able to visit more locations to present the film and turn each premiere into an event of celebration and remembrance.
Help us reach further and reach more people with THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS.
You can send the Verkami link to your contacts or participate again with new rewards.
Collaborate with us to achieve this second goal and help us compete with commercial cinema with a film that is more than entertainment... it is Culture, it is Memory, and it is Identity.
THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS is a Valencian film, and in Valencian language, that will leave no one indifferent. It is a manifesto for freedom and culture, which vindicates HISTORICAL MEMORY like no other film has done before.
WE WANT TO TURN ITS PREMIERE INTO A COLLECTIVE ACT OF MEMORY AND CULTURAL RESISTANCE THAT REACHES THE WIDEST AUDIENCE POSSIBLE.
To achieve this... we need your help.
Watch the trailer and get an idea of the film we've made:
THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS tells two parallel stories, separated by 80 years. One from the postwar period and the other from the present day. One of repression and the other of reparation. Two inseparable stories that explain a part of the Spanish history that the dictatorship tried to hide and that highlight the importance of understanding the past in order to heal the wounds of the present.
THIS FILM DOESN'T JUST HAVE TO BE SEEN; IT HAS TO BE EXPERIENCED, SHARED, DISCUSSED. THAT'S WHY WE WANT TO PROMOTE A COMMITTED, ACTIVE, AND ABOVE ALL, LARGE COMMUNITY OF VIEWERS.
We will premiere THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS on October 31st in the Original Valencian Language for Catalan-speaking territories and Original Version theaters throughout Spain, and on November 20th in the Spanish-dubbed version for the rest of the theaters.
We will hold consecutive premieres so we can attend and turn each premiere into an event, a celebration of memory and the fight for freedom. We will start in Valencia and continue through Barcelona, Alicante, Castellón, Girona, Tarragona, Madrid, Burgos... and so on, covering the entire country with special premieres of the film. Or, to put it another way, we will celebrate and reclaim memory through an independent film that recovers and honors the silenced historical memory with powerful visual language and a deeply human narrative.
The goal of **VERKAMI* is to fund this PROMOTION and DISTRIBUTION campaign in CINEMA THEATERS, but above all, to create a COMMUNITY with which to demonstrate that from Valencia we can also tell powerful and exciting stories, with undeniable technical and artistic quality.
WITH YOUR HELP, WE WILL GENERATE THAT COMMUNITY, ORGANIZE PREMIERES THROUGHOUT SPAIN, AND TURN THEM INTO CELEBRATIONS OF HISTORICAL MEMORY AND THE DIGNITY OF THE VICTIMS OF FRANCO'S REGIME.
How can you collaborate?
We've designed a series of unique and meaningful rewards, organized by pledge level. Each one connects directly with the film's militant spirit. Along with admission to the premiere, these are the main rewards. You decide how you want to participate.
1. Ticket to the movie premiere.
This is the basic reward. It entitles you to a ticket to one of the premieres, with a presentation by the director and other team members that we'll be organizing throughout Spain. Plus, each person who purchases a premiere ticket in advance will receive a surprise gift.
2. ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK CD.
This CD contains an explanatory booklet and 20 musical themes, 17 of which were composed specifically for the film by Vincent Barrière and performed by the University of Valencia Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Hilari García Gázquez.
It includes an original theme by Pascual Gassó (Marxa del mestre de Gules) and a faithful adaptation of the pasodoble Amparito Roca, arranged and conducted by Víctor Yusá Esteve and performed by the Burriana Philharmonic Ensemble.
Finally, the CD closes with a beautiful theme provided by Pau Alabajos: Fosses del silenci.
3. BOOK 01. COMMENTED SCRIPT.
A must-see for film lovers and people interested in the history of Valencia, and Spain, in the immediate post-war period.
This book is an art object in itself..
It includes the film's script with commentary from the director and screenwriter and offers detailed explanations, data, and images about all the historical references we used to document the script and the play on which it is based.
A beautifully edited artistic object that is both a moving story and an extraordinary source of historical and cultural information about a moment in our past that we wish to rescue from oblivion.
A true educational guide to the postwar period in our country and a tribute to historical memory and all those who fight for it.
4. BOOK 02. HOW IT WAS MADE.
This book is an invaluable document of how we were able to bring such an ambitious project, THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS, to fruition despite the thousands of obstacles that the Valencian film industry constantly encounters.
A book-object, filled with photographs, drawings, and explanations of the production process of this film, that is simultaneously a celebration of Valencian culture and a call to action regarding the obligation to make films in our language.
This is how the film was made, and this is how we've told our story, because we refuse to let outsiders come and tell it for us.
A beautiful art object and a true revelation about the enormous talent and professionalism of our film industry, whom we will never tire of honoring.
AND NOW ALSO, TICKETS FOR GROUPS
We've added a new GROUP REWARD. You can now purchase 20 tickets at once to share with your group, give to friends and family, and come to the movies together. This reward is also designed to make it easier for groups that have a harder time purchasing tickets individually. Coordinate to come to the movies as a group.
Check this page from time to time, because over the next days we'll be adding exciting new rewards. Don't miss out!
What will we invest the funding in?
A significant portion of the funding will cover the promotion and advertising costs for the film's various premieres (36%).
44% of the funding will be used to pay the salaries of the enthusiastic team that will help us take the film across Spain to make each premiere an event.
We will use 12% of the contributions to create and edit the rewards. We already have some of them ready, while we are just starting to prepare others.
And the remainder (8%) will be used to cover Verkami expenses.
What is our calendar?
The crowdfunding campaign will run for 40 days, starting on July 7th.
We will dedicate the summer months (July and August) to closing deals with theaters and continuing to prepare for the rewards.
In September, we will begin a media campaign to generate interest in the film. We will hold press screenings in October and premiere in theaters on the 31st.
Starting on October 31st, the film's premieres will be staggered so that the director and actors can attend as many premieres as possible to present it personally. They will be present at all the premieres related to Verkami ticket sales.
On November 20th, we will release the dubbed version in Spanish for Spanish-speaking territories.
In the coming weeks, we'll provide more information about the theaters we'll be closing for the premiere, but don't worry... there will always be a theater near you where we'll be showing the film, as long as you're in Spain.
The last rewards (books and paintings) will be delivered during the month of December. (Just in time to serve as Christmas or Epiphany gifts.) Shipping abroad may take a few more days.
Some notes on the film.
THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS is the film adaptation of Chema Cardeña's play of the same name, which premiered at the Sala Russafa in Valencia in February 2020. It is a historical drama that reveals a moment in our history that has been hidden from us for too long: the repression in the immediate post-war period, and shows us the consequences that the victims and their descendants still suffer today. Despite dealing with such a terrible and cruel subject, it is a film full of beauty and poetry, and above all, it is a moving story.
And a few notes about us.
THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS is a co-production of three production companies from Burriana (STANBROOK), Valencia (ARDEN PRODUCCIONES) and Barcelona (ALHENA PRODUCTION).
STANBROOK is the driving force, responsible for production, and also manages Verkami. We defend our language and culture and the need to consolidate a powerful, high-quality Valencian cinema that tells our stories in our language, from our land to the world.
STANBROOK is also a record and literary publishing house. We have produced three feature-length fiction films, two feature-length documentaries, and several short films. We have released three Valencian music albums (one of which is the soundtrack for the film THE INVASION OF THE BARBARIANS). We have also financed Rafa Xambó's latest two albums through Verkami. They are: La Dansa d'un temps nou and Últimes cançons.
We have produced Valencian music concerts for the presentation of these albums and the musical-dramatic show Cantata de València, at the Teatro Principal in Valencia.
We are also the production company that records the annual awards ceremony for the Ovidi Montllor Valencian Music Collective.

ARDEN PRODUCCIONES is the production company and independent theater company that manages the Sala Russafa in Valencia. Their theatrical and educational activities are overwhelming, and they are a benchmark in the Performing Arts in Valencia and across Spain. Their original works tour throughout Spain each year to showcase the talent and expertise of our authors and performers.

ALHENA PRODUCTION is an independent film production company from Barcelona. Its priority is producing original works full of artistic meaning and with an author's vision. Alhena is a benchmark in independent cinema in Europe.
