SINOPSIS
In the middle of the Mediterranean there is an island of stairs. 50 people and three children live there: Mirko, Valentino and Gabriele. At the the step 300 there's the school. Mirko, Valentino and Gabriele are the school's only pupils.
Teachers come every week from the coast, more than 3 hours away by ferry. On friday they all leave but Teresa, who lives on the island, at the same step 300. Teresa comes from a big city of the North and she'll soon get retired. One day of 15 years ago she decided to dedicated her life to the island and to its tiny school.
Teresa is a modern and creative teacher who knows that traditional methods can't work with the sons of such a closed and impenetrable place. Making the school possible in that context has been the mission of her life, which slowly unveiled to her the violence laying behind the natural beauty of the little island.
Violence often storming the classroom. On the little island of stairs, school desks literally fly. Mirko Valentino and Gabriele are Teresa's last pupils. After them they say that the school will close.
A camera behind the teaching desk. The unpredictable daily life of the three pupils of Italy's tiniest school. Their liberating bond with the sea. The thoughts and the diary of Teresa, teacher and guardian of an unique experience now close to the end.
The Last Day is the intimate portrait of the incredible experience of the school of Alicudi Island (Sicily). The story of a mission and commitment for education in a lost place. The symbol of wider approach to school and education deeply rooted in the history of European democracy, now at risk of extinction.

After the wonderful experience of [The Portraitist]((http://www.verkami.com/projects/1385-el-retratista/), The Last Day is a new step of and ideal trip toward the edge of the continent for discovering a different school still resisting in spite of all. The last day is a documentary film dedicated to all teachers who keep fighting for the children's' right of a modern, creative and democratic school.
WHAT WE ALREADY DID, WHAT IS STILL LEFT TO DO
The origin of The Last Day project are the Lapa TV video workshops, made at the school of Alicudi in 2008.
The shooting of The Last Day started in may 2011 and ended in march 2014 with more than 20 hours observational work.
The money coming from the crowd-funding campaign will be used for covering the editing, post-production and communication costs of the documentary.

Cara Caterina, il film è in uscita, l'anteprima si farà con tutta probabilità a Messina poco prima di Natale, riuscirai per caso a venire? Pubblicherò presto notizie più precise la riguardo sul blog del progetto e sulla pagina facebook del Museo del Cinema di Stromboli.
