Exhibition UNEXPECTED EUROPE by Dámaso Ávila

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

I am presenting this Project with the aim of raising sufficient funds to present an exhibition titled “Unexpected Europe”, that will show a series of photographs taken in thirteen different countries around Europe during 2005 to 2013.

The photographs show a series of events in which they not only highlight the arquitectural aspects and the significant details of the cities and countries visited, but mainly concentrates on the principal people that live there. Therefore I present a series of portraits showing the character of the people in different countries, as well as combining people and striking environments , always highlighting the human imprint on the landscape or monuments.

The exposition comprises of a total of 40 images taken in the following countries, Germany Austria, France, Switzerland, Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Italy and Malta. These images are taken in both black and white and colour. They will be printed in different sizes to show the different aspects of the images and especially to achieve a certain asymmetry in the exhibition. Depending on the distribution in the room, two or three of them will be in a larger size to highlight them in order to focus attention on them.

LOCATION

The intention is to show the photographs of the exhibition in various parts of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands). The first location will be in the room of exhibitions located within the historic Casa de los Capitanes in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, World Heritage Site, it is a busy pedestrian street that is visited daily by a large number of Spanish and foreign tourists, and there is a tourist information office located in front of the building.

It is possible that the exhibition can be moved to other islands and mainland Spain.

TIMETABLE

We want this exhibition to take place in October 2014. The exhibition will remain open to the public during this month.

USE OF FUNDS

The funds obtained will be used entirely for the costs needed to put together the exhibition, printing of the photographs, printing costs (posters, invitations, program, business cards, etc) to recompense the organizers and other expenses in an event such as this.

COMPENSATION TO THE SPONSORS

The compensation will be given at the time of the inauguration. The sponsors will be mentioned and the thanks of the author given at the exhibition, along will the presentation of items.

Obviously some of them (portrait of the sponsor, or person chosen by him or a course of character portraits) require a later agreement between them that is satisfactory to the sponsor.

First of all, all donations will receive a CD that contains all the photos shown in the exhibition, and a presentation to that effect.

CONTRIBUTION OF 20 EUROS

Invitation to the inauguration and a mention at the event and a CD with all the photos and 10% discount on any item bought at the exposition.

CONTRIBUTION OF 30 EUROS

Invitation to the inauguration and a mention at the event and the CD and 10% discount on any item bought at the exposition and a catalogue.

CONTRIBUTION OF 50 EUROS

Invitation to the inauguration and a mention at the event and the CD and 15% discount on any item bought at the exposition and a signed poster size A4 of the exhibition and a catalogue.

CONTRIBUTION OF 75 EUROS

Invitation to the inauguration and a mention at the event and the CD and 20% discount on any item bought at the exposition and a signed poster size A4 of the exhibition and a catalogue and a copy of one of the photographs of the exhibition size 20x30 cm, signed and dedicated, and you will become the sponsor of that photograph and your name mentioned in the information about it.

CONTRIBUTION OF 100 EUROS

Invitation to the inauguration and a mention at the event and a CD and 25% discount on any item bought at the exposition and a signed poster size A4 of the exhibition and a catalogue and a copy of one of the photographs of the exhibition size 20x30 cm, signed and dedicated, and you will become the sponsor of that photograph with your name mentioned in the catalogue and a basic course doing strong portraits during 6 hours (date at sponsors convenience).

CONTRIBUTION OF 150 EUROS

Invitation to the inauguration and a mention at the event and a DVD and 25% discount on any item bought at the exposition and a catalogue and you will become the sponsor of a photograph with your name mentioned in the information about it and a basic course doing strong portraits in Photoshop during 6 hours (date at sponsors convenience) and a reproduction of one of the photographs of the exhibition signed, with serial number and certificate (maximum number of copies: 10).

CONTRIBUTION OF 200 EUROS

Invitation to the inauguration and a mention at the event and a DVD and 25% discount on any item bought at the exposition and a catalogue and you will become the sponsor of a photograph with your name mentioned in the catalogue and a signed poster of the exhibition size A3 and a basic course doing portraits in Photoshop during 6 hours (date at sponsors convenience) and a session of photographs taken of the sponsor or a person of the sponsors choice and a reproduction of one of the photographs of the exhibition signed, with serial number and certificate (maximum number of copies: 10).

CONTRIBUTION OF 300 EUROS

Sponsorship reserved for private sponsors or businesses and institutions.

Invitation of the inauguration and a mention at the event and a DVD and a catalogue and you will become the sponsor of a photograph with your name mentioned in the catalogue and the business logo of the sponsor will be put on the exposition poster and also on advertisements on social networks and one of the photographs size 100x150 cms that will be printed for the exhibition (high quality paper, permanent ink, and framed to last forever.

THE AUTHOR

I am a photographer living in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). I began to take photographs in 2004. I particularly like architectural photographs, detailed items that attract my attention and portraits that have character.

I have obtained numerous awards in local, regional and national photographic competitions.

My work has appeared in various expositions along with other photographers and I made my own individual exposition in 2011 about arquitecture and city life. It was called “Con otra Mirada” at the Sala de Arte Paraninfo at the University of La Laguna.

Various photographs of mine can be seen in publications such as:

“Con otra Mirada”, edited by Vicerrectorado de Universidad y Sociedad de la Universidad de La Laguna. It shows a selection of the work used for the exhibition in the Sala de Arte Paraninfo of the University in 2011.

My concept of photography is based on the art and self expression that allows me to get the best out of myself and to express it in pictures. On the other hand, the Photography supposes an immense way of personal expression, the effective accomplishment of the artistic and creative anxieties of the author.

The photographer is not always a notary of the reality, but across his images it demonstrates a creative zeal of emotions. My photographies try to express a very particular way of seeing and turning the moments of my existence into almost magic instants
