DOCUMENTARY

The documentary Getting ready. The right to decide visits USA is one of the projects of Dretadecidir.com association which aim is to spread overseas what's up in Catalonia and the will of Catalan people to celebrate a free and fair referendum in order to decide their own future. If we accomplish the financial support we are asking, we would like to do the same project in Europe next year.

A 9500-MILE ROADTRIP

During three weeks, we have driven through more than 25 US states. We have met catalan expats that are living in the US, and we have interviewed American experts in the Catalan culture. We have been in New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Atlanta, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. We have a roadtrip blog which everyone who is interested in our project can follow.

THE MAIN CHARACTERS

We have interviewed well-known people like Mary Ann Newman, Farragut Foundation founder, director of the former Catalan Center of New York and winner of 1998 Creu de Sant Jordi prize; Jordi Graupera, Philosophy professor; Catalan Institute of America president, Jaume Soler; Gustau Alegret, Washington correspondent of RAC1 radio; Xavier Vilà, Washington correspondent of Catalunya Ràdio; Joan Ramon Resina, Spanish and Portuguese Literature Department director at Stanford University; Edward W. Goodson, American lawyer and founder of Americans for Catalonia association; Allen Buchanan, Philosophy professor at Duke University and secession expert; Liz Castro, editor of What’s up with Catalonia? book; and Eduard Vallory, political expert and journalist.

Back in Barcelona, we have also interviewed other well-known people and experts that have been living in the United States. Economy professor Clara Ponsatí (to whom the Spanish government have not renewed the Príncipe de Asturias professorship at Georgetown University), Sean McKinnon, American student who lead the signatures gathering in order to let the White House know about what is going on in Catalonia and the Catalan people will to have a referendum, Elisa Martí, former president of the North American Catalan Society (NACS) and Carles Boix, Wilson Initiative and National Trasition Advisory Board member.

INTERNACIONALIZING THE RIGHT TO DECIDE

We have also stopped at some state capitols where we have delivered a FC Barcelona soccer shirt with an estelada printed on it, along with a copy of the sovereign declaration regarding the right to decide from the Catalan Parliament and Liz Castro's book What’s up with Catalonia?, in which there are several articles from well-known Catalans where they explain what is going on in Catalonia.

WHAT WE WILL DO WITH YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS

The money that we will gather in this crowfounding campaign will cover the expenses through the filming at United States. These are the following expenses:

GAS & CAR RENTAL: 1.700 €

FLIGHT TICKETS: 1.300 €

FOOD COSTS: 960 €

FILMING EQUIPMENT: 400 €

MOTELS: 620 €

TOTAL: 4.980 €

If we overcome the budget, the difference will go to promote a documentary second part, Getting ready. The right to decide visits Europe. We encourage everyone to add your two cents to help the Catalan voice be listened in Europe.

PRODUCTION EDIT AND TIMING

We have already started on working in the documentary edition. We are watching all the material we have gathered and working on the main thread of the script.

The documentary will be ready by the end of October. The Premiere will be around the second and thrid week of November (we are dealing with a 1.500 people capacity theater).
