First EP Barbott

WHO ARE WE?

We all have a beard and maybe that’s why during September 2012 after a meetup in a bar in Barcelona we chose the name, Barbott, almost jokingly, for our band. (Barba means beard in Spanish).

We’re aged between 19 and 21 years old and our names are Guilem Sala (lead singer, guitarist and keyboardist), Martí Roselló (guitarist), Marc Bertran (bassist and background singer), Adrià Mulet (drummer).

The good vibe between us helped us come up with “Little Girl”, a song of our own that we have performed in various Barcelona concert halls such as Be Cool, Be Good, City Hall, Espai Jove La Fontana, Espai Jove Boca Nord and Ada Art Gallery. We performed one of our first gigs at the annual festival at UAB where we won the “La Autònoma Actúa” prize. Now, we’ve been given the chance to record our first EP including indie rock and alternative rock songs.

“Honeybee” is one of the songs that we recorded during a rehearsal and we’ll definitely work on it in order to make it part of our EP.

And this is an acoustic version of “Margarita”, recorded by Bruna González and Venus Villa for their clip “May”. This video was entered in Banco Santander’s “Video Talentos” contest.

WHY ARE WE USING VERKAMI?

We don’t want to miss out on the opportunity. Jaime Garcia and Toni Toledo are members of the Majorcan band Sexy Sadie and are also the current guitarist and drummer of Amaral, a popular Spanish band. They have listened to our songs and they’re going to guide us through the recording of our EP. Although we’ve been together for less than a year, mixing our creativity with Jaime and Toni’s expertise will, without a doubt, help us gain musical strength. We need to do this in order to become better known and also to grow as a band.

WHAT WILL WE INVEST THE MONEY IN?

The 1200 euros will be entirely intended for the recording of our EP. It will consist of 5 songs which will be recorded in a studio in Palma de Majorca. The price includes technicians and post-production (mastering). If we exceed this amount of money, we’ll be able to put any extra towards the printing of the CD and travel expenses. Two of us have families settled in Majorca, which will minimalize accommodation costs.

SCHEDULE

Everything is set to be done during the last days of this coming August. From the 22nd to the 25th we will be working on and making any final touches to our songs with Jaime and Toni. On the 26th we'll enter in to the studio and we won’t leave until we’re done. After this, our idea is to finish all things related to the mastering and printing of our CD as quickly as possible in order to present the new album by the end of September or beginning of October, our first anniversary as a band.
