WHAT WE WANT TO DO?
The project consists on the publication of a book, which will analyse the situation and changes in the Zapatista movement in its 20 Anniversary (1994-2014).
The book will be a journalistic report in which we want to offer a historical perspective of the zapatista movement. The report will pay particular attention to the reasons why they decided to make the uprising in 1994 and how the movement has changed in these 20 years. It will also highlight the main achievements and difficulties of the movement and its future.
We will conduct a series of interviews during the fieldwork in order to contrast the different views that the movement has. Apart from the interviews, field work in Chiapas include an everyday living with the locals with whom we want to try to reconstruct the history of the 20 years of the EZLN. The work will allow us to conduct a detailed approach to the current situation in the region and the zapatistas and thus, provide an assessment of the successes and difficulties encountered by the movement between 1994 and 2014.
This is a news report which will be published in printed book (for touch and smell).
WHAT’S THE MONEY FOR?
The money is going to be spent in editing, publishing and distributing the book. The preparation of the book has its own funding, too.
EXPECTED TIMETABLE
The group prepares the report since February. During six months, until July, we will investigate and prepare the field work. All aspects of preproduction (interviews, visits and observation in Chiapas) will be adjusted to 25 - 30 July.
In August we will develop the fieldwork in the area (Chiapas).
From September to December we will proceed to the printing, publishing and launching the book, just for the 20th anniversary of the Zapatista movement, which will take place in January 2014.
Rewards will be delivered between December 2013 and January 2014, at the same time of the book publication.
SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION
A percentage of the profits from book sales will go to a nonprofit association that works in favor of the education of children in the State of Chiapas (Mexico).
