What ‘Jardinario 2022’ is?
In 2016 I designed, illustrated and produced my first illustrated calendar. I needed a project that would allow me to freely create, experiment, and advance in the development of my illustration style. I repeated in 2017 and 2018, but I decided to stop in 2019. Although they were very enriching projects at a professional level, economically they were not at all and I am betting on this platform to try to make it profitable.
'Jardinario 2022' is a project about the design, illustration and production of an illustrated calendar for the year 2022, to be used as a wall or a desktop calendar. Due to the theme and the typology of the illustrations, this is a calendar for women, over all.
At the top, each print will have a micro story written by the writer María Cañal Barrera and illustrated by me. Both, the micro story and the illustration, will have the flowers as the central motive, a different flower for each month.
Each illustration will be featured for a female figure next to the flower that has been chosen for each month, according to the feelings and emotions that their micro-story narrates and taking into account the symbols that are culturally attributed to each flower. For example, May will be the month of the daffodil and both, the micro story and the illustration, will revolve around the concept of purity.
At the bottom, each print will contain a monthly planner that will allow you to conveniently note appointments and events.
Similar to all my previous calendars, 'Jardinario 2022' is conceived with the purpose of being the most handmade product possible. Once the final art has been illustrated and made, it will be produced in a family printing house in Alcalá de Guadaíra. There will only be a single edition and it will be limited to the total number of patrons who support it.
Prints arrive home grouped by months. It is necessary to order them and put them in your folder one by one.
I will sign the calendar on the back and list each copy by hand in strict order of contribution. Then I will wrap each calendar in tissue paper and accompany it with a card that I will illustrate expressly for this project and that I will dedicate, by hand, on the back for each patron.
Detail of the project:
-1 illustrated folder for all inner prints. On the back, the folder will have a space that will collect the names of all the patrons, along with another space in which I will sign and number each copy.
-12 prints, one for each month (A4 page size: 21 × 30 cm)
-12 micro stories, one on each prints
-12 illustrations that you can frame at the end of the year
-12 monthly planners
Rewards
There are two basic rewards, depending on whether or not you want the calendar to have a personalized illustrated dedication inside the envelope folder:
A. Illustrated calendar + name included in the acknowledgments on the back cover + hand delivery (There will be collection points in Seville and its surroundings (to be determined). If you want to receive it at home, add the reward of € 5, € 10 or € 15 depending on the shipment you require.)
B. Illustrated calendar + name included in the acknowledgments on the back cover + personalized illustrated dedication inside the envelope folder + hand delivery (There will be collection points in Seville and its surroundings (to be determined). If you want to receive it at home, add the reward of € 5, € 10 or € 15 depending on the shipment you require).
C. It is also possible to sponsor packs of two and three calendars.
Who am I?
This project would not be so special without the contribution that the Sevillian writer María Cañal Barrera. Maria and I have known each other for many years and we understand each other perfectly. The short novel 'Seis meses, 182 días' was our first work together. Then came my calendars, for which she has written all her micro stories, also 'La Suerte de Carmen', an exceptional novel in search of a publisher and 'Los Mayores Cuentan'. Her last novel, 'Mi propia historia de Amor', It was published this summer by Harlequin Publishing.
I am embarrashed to talk about myself, but you need to know my story. My name is Raquel Feria Legrand and I was born in Córdoba, although I live happily with my husband and my two children in Tomares, a town in Seville very close to the capital.
I am a journalist and I work coordinating, in part-time hours, the infographics section of Diario de Sevilla. I have been working on reduced hours since my eldest daughter was born about twelve years ago.
I have always liked to draw, my oldest memories are linked to colored pencils. Although I have never stopped doing it, due to the reduction in working hours I took it up again in a more serious and active way and, after developing a style, I designed prints that I tried to sell in Etsy. Thanks to the sales I got and the diffusion I made of my work in social networks, Freelancers and communication and design agencies began to contact me, both national and international, for which I have developed infographics and editorial, advertising and museum illustration works, allowing me to become a freelance.
As I mentioned at the beginning, in 2016 I designed, illustrated and produced my first illustrated calendar. I repeated in 2017 and 2018, but I gave up in 2019, economically none of them were profitable.
Illustrating each calendar and managing its production involve a month and a half of intense work. I am a freelance and I can not avoid the fixed expenses derived from my activity to invest in a project with no return, so I use this platform with the purpose that 'Jardinario 2022' can be a profitable reality.
What will we allocate your contributions to?
In the first place, the contributions will serve to defray the cost of the campaign, the cost of printing and the cost of all the materials necessary for packaging and shipments. The remaining amount will be used to pay the cost of the writing of the micro stories and the design, illustration, packaging and preparation work for the shipment of all the calendars. 35% of the proceeds, I like to consider it that way, will be reverted to society in the form of taxes (VAT and personal income tax).
What if the campaign exceeds the collection?
If the campaign reaches 100% with your contributions, I will allocate the rest of what has been achieved, first of all, to produce the calendars sponsored by all the patrons who contribute to the campaign once the amount that is needed has been achieved. Second, I will allocate the necessary amount to pay campaign expenses and taxes that exceed the fixed amount. And for everything that is collected more, I have a specific objective called Futuro Singular Córdoba.
In this center lives one of the most important people in my life and to this center ** I will donate everything collected that exceeds the established amount, minus the production, campaign and corresponding taxes **, and I will leave update that I will post on this platform so you can know it. I hope I can do it, I really want it.
Timing
The campaign lasts for 40 days. Assuming it starts on October 6, the times would be as follows:
-From October 6 to November 15: design, writing and illustration of the calendar and the illustrated card that will be dedicated. Once the campaign is over, I will immediately get in touch with all the patrons.
If the required quantity is reached:
-From November 15 to 18: color test and color corrections and composition of illustrations + acquisition of packaging materials
-From November 19 to 27: printing, cutting and creasing of the envelope folder. The inside flap of the folder is glued by hand, one by one, hence, allow a week for this stage of the project.
-From November 27 to 30: signing, numbering and packaging of the calendars in order of patronage
-December 1: day on which I hope to be able to send (also hand-deliver) the first calendars.
-December 15: last day for shipments.
All rewards will receive the corresponding invoice by email.
Shipments will be certified with a tracking code. These dates are marked so that everyone is at the addresses provided by the patrons on December 20 at the latest. I will respect the order of realization of each patronage to establish the order of the shipments, but I have no choice but to give a certain exit preference, for logistics, to international shipments and to the rewards of those patrons who need the calendar for a date prior to the December 20th. I will try, vehemently, that all your rewards come to date in all cases, but there may be problems in this regard with the US, Australia and countries in the Middle East. If this is the case with a patron, please let me know to prioritize your reward and avoid any delay.
And, what about if the required amount is not available?
Contributions are charged instantly, but if the necessary amount is not achieved, the platform will immediately return the amount contributed by entering it into your account. I will contact all the official patrons and produce the rewards of those who want to place their order outside of this platform, even if this means that the project is not personally profitable. You will have your calendar.
