"Cierra la maleta" - New album by Barbarita

About us and the project:

My name is Bárbara Moreno, Barbarita on stage, and CLOSE THE SUITCASE is my second musical project which I hereby present to you all.

CLOSE THE SUITCASE is an experimental work that flirts with various musical styles and draws on multiple sources. At the base is an electronic album and distills hip hop, trap, electro, dance, cloud, chill, reggae, a little bit of pop, flamenco touches, electroacoustic sounds of guitars, bass and ukulele, and syncopated rhythms of darbukas. Would you like to try it?

CLOSE THE SUITCASE moves between the intimate and the melancholic, transmitting as well strength, femininity, vitality, rhythm and optimism. Like a girl who laughs and cries at the same time, each of the 10 songs yearns to be felt, heard, loved and danced.

CLOSE THE SUITCASE is produced by Aimen Hachem (aka No Made) founder of Nomade Studios, where the project was forged and where the recordings and mixing are taking place. Aimen's instrumentals and the musical universes that he has created in each one of them make this album totally different from my previous work. Looking for sobriety and maturity he has encouraged me to explore other registers and textures of my voice, underlining in its musical arrangements, the beauty of the subtle and the whispered.

Since 2006 I live in Casablanca (in Morocco) where I combine my work as a teacher with my passion: music. Here, and later in Spain and France, I began to sing in the streets, parties, jams, restaurants and festivals, by the hand of Stephane Beziers, (Bamboli Trombone). In 2013, and thanks to the participation in Verkami of all our friends, family and followers, we published under the artistic name of Barbarita Y su Bambolimy first musical work: PASA EL RÍO, an album full of energy, dance and fun that I invite you to listen.

I write songs because I'm a word lover. The discovery of rap in Spanish and the French slam in the 90s, fanned the flame of rhyme and poetry already latent in my artistic sensibility. Since then, I have timidly flirted with flow, and without being a rapper, I am passionate about writing, reciting and improvising texts on all kinds of musical bases.

Aïmen, has witnessed my evolution as an artist. He was present from my beginnings and participated as a vocalist in the song that gave title to the previous album. Since then we have maintained a friendship that has grown over time and with collaboration in different artistic projects; among them, No es mi día, a song for a rap album produced by Aimen in which, for the first time, I launched into reciting some verses. From there, the idea of ​​integrating my texts with his music began to flutter until one idle summer afternoon in 2019 we got to it.

CLOSE THE SUITCASE was born as a game. That is, in an organic and natural manner; with no other pretense than sharing, and from an almost childlike desire to explore new horizons by fitting texts into instrumentals and vice versa. Most of the songs were recorded in one shot mode in studio sessions that could be described as mini-artistic residencies during which, depending on the energy and inspiration of the moment, the instrumentals, the texts and the melodies that comform the album, began to emerge. CLOSE THE SUITCASE is therefore, a here and now experimental work.

Fine musicians to whom I am dearly grateful, accompany us in this adventure: Flips, [Bamboli Trombone](Bamboli Trombone, Yacine Assodi, Mehdi Abdu, and Yassine Mourit.
