Carlos wishing you welcome
5-2=7 is a documentary that aims to immerse into deafblindness, a sensorial disability very little known, but that affects more than 3000 persons in Catalonia.
What is their story? Have you ever asked yourself how they perceive the world? How they overcome the challenges in communication? In an eminently audiovisual world, the deafblind people live through their imagination and the interpretations of touch perception. Their hands are their connectors to everything that surrounds them.
The protagonists of 5-2=7
5-2=7 takes us on a journey through the eyes of the deafblind people themselves. Here they explain about their daily challenges, they express their needs and abilities, and describe how deafblindness have changed their lives.
In one of his first interviews, Carlos, one of the protagonists, told us the following: “when they diagnosed me with retinitis pigmentosa, I looked at myself and said: “And now what?” I was worried. I had a group of friends whom I was gradually getting away from. Because of fear. Fear of myself. I felt weird. "
Isabel, with Usher syndrome has explained how the communication with other people has got much more complicated as her condition has gradually worsened.
Before, I could speak sign language with another person within my field of vision, but now I need that person to be next to me, I need to touch their hand in order to understand what they are telling me. Communicaton is very difficult.
The documentary includes testimonies from other deafblind people, as well as from the people around them, those who accompany them in their day to day life.
What is our goal?
We aim to make a documentary to raise society's awareness of deafblindness, to stop it from being seen as a strange thing. And to show that deafblind people have their own features regarding communication and mobility, but that with the right tools they can do many things.
5 -2 = 7 takes us into the world of deafblindness through the deafblind people themselves so that we all can become aware of their condition and not least stop their daily struggle from being submerged in a world of silence and darkness.
Why do we ask for your collaboration?
MultiSignes is an audiovisual production company specialized in accessibility with a great social vocation. The idea of 5-2 = 7 was born some time ago. Little by little we have been making some of the recordings and interviews that will be included in the documentary. But the budget rules, and every time the piggy bank was emptied we had to leave the project on standby. Until now, that we have decided to finish it once and for all, because 5-2 = 7 deserves to become a reality.
People with deafblindness live in no man's land. Their sensory disability is little known, which makes them an invisible collective.
Help us make them visible and give them a voice. Join us at 5-2 = 7 and help us make it possible!
