Catalan dancers, united against cancer

Dance for health and for a society of peace and culture

On 27th and 28th of July 2017, two very special benefit galas "Dancers from Girona, united against cancer" were celebrated.

Thanks to the support of the public, these galas succesfully raised 7.500€ for the Foundation Oncolliga Girona, a foundation with a long history of helping cancer patients and their families.

The dancers of the gala were so well received by the critics and the public that there was unanimous demand for a similar event to be made the year after. And so here we are!

This year, the gala Catalan dancers, united against cancer will be celebrated on September 9th 2018 at the Municipal Theater of Girona at 7 PM, offering an exciting variety of dance styles: classical, neoclassical, contemporary, folklore, ballroom dance and tap dance.

The gala will present renowned Catalan dancers who are actively performing in international companies, with a program of prestigious choreographers such as Marco Goecke, Kenneth MacMillan, Hans van Manen, John Cranko and John Neumeier, among others. The gala will once again be presented by the charismatic actor and Catalan dramaturg Martí Peraferrer.

This project aims to promote Catalan talent while raising funds for a very good cause. The total profit from the gala will go towards the projects of Foundation Oncolliga Girona.

This gala is one of the events in the "Girona in Motion" benefit festival, with other activities such as dance in the streets, a conference on Dance and Health and an intensive course for young dancers.

How?

The aim is to create a cultural, artistic and benefit event that will raise funds for the fight against cancer. The total benefit from the gala will be directed towards projects of the Foundation Oncolliga Girona, such as their wig service and psycho-oncology.

Where do your contributions go?

All the contributions will be used to pay for transport, accommodation and expenses of the dancers who will participate in the benefit gala. Even though the dancers graciously perform in this event for free, there is the need to cover these expenses. This Crowdfunding campaign aims to make this event financially possible and so multiplying the profit that will go to help cancer patients.

The total benefit of the ticket sales and solidarity contributions will be destined to help cancer patients through the highly experienced Foundation Oncolliga Girona.

Every euro over our target gives greater support in the fight against cancer.

About the rewards

There are a variety of rewards for you contributions, such as VIP tickets to the gala, representation in the credits of the promotional videos and trailer, posters and DVDs signed by the dancers, backstage tours of the Municipal Theater of Girona guided by the actor Martí Peraferrer, participation in a unique dance workshop, a framed professional photo with the dancers of the gala, receiving Honorary Membership of Girona in Motion, access to the general rehearsals and a cocktail party with the artists and organisers.

We will reward the solidarity contributions of enterprises and patrons, with their logo featured at the gala, on the trailer and DVD and in other promotional media.

The principal patrons will have their logo at the photocall in the Foyer of the Municipal Theater and projected onto the stage of the gala.

Who are we?

The professional gala "Catalan dancers, united against cancer" is a project by dancer and cultural manager David Rodríguez ( Associació Cultural David Rodríguez ), and coordinated with the Foundation Oncolliga Girona, a foundation with a large history and experience dedicated to helping cancer patients and their families.

This event takes place with the support of the City Hall of Girona and the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia.

After the success of their first collaboration together with "Dancers of Girona, united against cancer" in 2017, a positive, professional and amiable connection has been established between the developer of the project, David Rodríguez, and Ms. Lluisa Ferrer, president of the Foundation Oncolliga Girona.

Schedule overview

The aim is to present the benefit gala "Catalan dancers, united against cancer" on the 9th September 2018 at the Municipal Theatre of Girona at 7 PM. The Foundation Oncolliga Girona will distribute the total raised funds through their varied projects dedicated to helping cancer patients and their families.

Collaborators, donors and patrons will be able to enjoy their rewards of this campaign on the days before the gala and on the 9th September 2018.

An initial press conference is scheduled for mid July 2018.
