WHAT IS PROJECT MERAKI?

It is the dream of two teachers and their kids of going through South America in a Mobile Library. They are aware of the importance of education and culture for the development and prosperity of the most disadvantaged countries, and this is an essential way in order to get equality and fundamental Rights.

We will visit different villages and schools, with no other aspiration than giving the best of us as committed educators, passing our love for books, encouraging reading and curiosity in learning on others, growing in turn thanks to all of the educational experiences we will find in each community, making visible and spreading new educational paradigms and experiences of transforming education.

WHY STARTING A CROWDFUNDING?

For the last two years we have been saving money, we have sold our car and rent our house in order to make this project come true.

We have the ssupport of many friends, writers, illustrators, publishers and mass media, who encouraged and inspired us in our way. Many publishers sent us their children books, some as a gift for the schools we will visit, some as a donation for our wonderful mobile library

Last july we sent an container with all of the books and our personal belongings to Buenos Aires, where an historic argentinian bus, transformed into our mobile library, was waiting for us. Because of the extra charges, we are spending all of our savings for our life here and our travels to the schools.

Anyway, this is a moment for looking for solutions and carry on, nobody said this would be easy, and we are sure that we will make it through with the help of all of the friends of this PROJECT MERAKI.

This is the reason why we launch this campaing, and every person who believes in a more caring, kind and sympathetic world, just as we do, is invited to it. A world which contains many others worlds, a world where dreams may come true.

Since this is an “all or nothing” crowdfunding campaing, that is, we will only get the money if we get to the 100% of our fundraising goal, your support is essential

CHILDREN BOOK: SHALL WE DREAM?

This bilingual children book (Spanish/French) was written with a lot of love by Aurora (one of the teachers in this project), illustrated by our beloved friend Guridi, with the priceless help of our little Valentina (our daughter), and it has been translated into French by our French fairy Godmother Marie Josserand , and we pretend that it will be one of our main means of financing.

We had been saving money to self-publish this book, and for launching our project, but we have spent it in bureaucratic paperworks at the Port Terminal in Buenos Aires, FOR A MISTAKE WE DIDN´T MAKE. With the fundings of this crowdfunding, we will pay the first edition and publish the book, if we meet the fundraising goal of this campaing.

THE MOBILE LIBRARY-SCHOOL

Our “mobile Library-School” will be our main means of transport, our home and a place where empathy, respect, knowledge, sensibility and creativity will be delivered, because these are the basic pillars to make our world a better place. Our peculiar bus will take us to different villages and people.

A Colectivo argentino histórico (and argentinian traditional public bus) wich have been transformed into different modules to be our home and an educational place. By this we have been looking for functionality and environmental sustainability, including a dry ecotoilet. Solar panels will provide us energy.

WHO ARE WE?

We are Ángel and Aurora, two andalusian teachers, educators by choice, concerned for learning, constant training and new educational paradigms and transforming education. With our three children, Daniel (12 years old), Miguel (10 years old) and Valentina (4 years old), we are a creative, committed, sympathetic and fond of travelling family.

OUR VALUES

TRAVELLING SLOWLY: Our goal is enjoying every journey, in no hurry, staying in every place the time we need to, flowing, living intensely each experience we find in our path, sharing with the friends and the schools we find.

EMPATHY: We will travel with all of our senses open to the world, cultures, traditions, ways of being and feeling. Always with a open hand and a giving heart, leaving behind a bit of us in the places we visit.

SUSTAINABILITY: We will go thrugh every mile leaving the less possible residue. We will recycle, reuse and use solar panels and ecotoilets in our way. We will take care and respect the environment, and we will promote these values in every action we develop.

MAKING VISIBLE: One of our main goals is making public and promoting those innovative and transforming educational experiences and projects which are growing in this part of the world, so they can inspire other teachers far away, building links between teachers an schools.

DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION: We believe in a world which contains many different worlds, where the Fundamental Rights are more important than political, economical or individual interests, being education the best way to achieve it. Our more than 500 books will be our best friends to do our bit to help.

RECOMPENSAS y PLAZOS DE ENTREGA.

REWARDS AND DELIVERY PERIODS

The digital illustrated postcards will be sent along the journey, chosing for each sponsor a special place, so they will be unique memories.
• The T-shirts will be delivered 25 days after the funding campaing ends (colour and size subject to availability)

• The Children Books will be printed when the funding campaing ends and they will be sent to the sponsors a week after their printing.
• The books for the children and the schools will be delivered along our journey in the most disadvantaged communities, and we will send a digital postcard and a dedicatory to the sponsors who like.
• Those enterprises, entities, associations... that want to collaborate as sponsors in our Challenge “100 entities with a soul and a heart” will be included 25 days after our funding campaing ends.

WHAT WILL WE DO WITH THE FUNDINGS?

Basically, if you take part in this campaing, you are contributing to make this project possible.

Being an “all or nothing” crowdfunding, that is, you only get the fundings if you get 100% of your fundraising goal, your support is fundamental.

The book must be available in Spain and South America in order to accomplish the campaing rewards. If we get the goal, we will print them in both continents, so we will avoid problems with the transoceanic transport. The requested amount will be enough for the basic costs of printing and delivering, and that is why we ask you collaboration on spreading our campaing so we can go as far as posible in our educational adventure.

We will use some money also for the charges of publishing our book (publishing, printing, ISBN, delivery...) and for the T-shirts (printing, delivery)
