#wikicrowdfunding 2: How should I set a stretch goal?

on March 12, 2014 in Tricks and tips

I’ve already reached my funding goal, but there’s still time to go before the end of the campaign and I’d like to carry on attracting new patrons and pledges. What should I do?

Stretch goals are new objectives you set yourself if you reach your initial funding goal before the end of the campaign and want to push yourself further. Extra funds are always welcome for helping improve the quality of your product, offering new, more exclusive rewards and even helping it grow in totally new directions: more studio hours for recording an album, creating a making of for a film, publishing a book on better quality paper…

Make the most of the remaining days in your campaign and all the patrons who have pledged their money and support to take your plan to the next level.

PUBLICISE YOUR NEW GOAL

Remember, communication is key! If no one knows about your new stretch goal, you DEFINITELY won’t reach it.

Make sure all your patrons receive an email when you post on your blog to spread the word about your new goal and help with Promotion 1.0 and 2.0.

Make the most of images, as we’ve seen in the game Huida de Silver City, by including them in the description of your project, with banners, graphics …

And never forget the patrons who’ve already given you a helping hand. One idea is to create a new reward for everyone, as Daniel Higiénico did in his project El Paseo Infinito.

But there’s no need to stop there: if you then exceed your stretch goal, why not stretch yourself even further and set yourself another one to squeeze the most out of the 40 days? Always bear in mind what kind of project you’re dealing with: in some cases, patrons are very receptive to new goals; in others, they just want to be told the minimum amount to be raised; and in others (board games, for instance), it’s common practice to set out the stretch goals at the very start of the campaign.
