Con sana alegría

Every day, the worst part of waking up is that there’s always a decision to make, a path to chose and another one to renounce to. Con sana alegría (“With wholesome joy”) is a short feature film speaking of loneliness, femininity and desire, as seen from a basic, almost an animal’s perspective. How much are you willing to sacrifice in order to do what is right? And what is right? Is it what everyone expects you to do or is it rather a place, a peaceful place, no matter what this peace is about? Con sana alegría does not intend to provide answers, it only raises the questions, leaving them open.

Each one of us has its own peaceful place and finding it can take a lifetime. Sometimes, a lifetime might not be enough. Sayda, the leading youngster of this story, faces these sometimes small and sometimes enormous dilemmas. She does not always make the most appropriate decision. We, as spectators, are carried away in her emotional and physical wandering, the wandering of a character in crisis. This is an intimate expression of daily life metaphors.

From a production point of view, the short movie is part of the feature film La ciudad de las mujeres altas (“The city of tall women”), on which we have been working since a bit more than a year. The short will be the calling card of the director as a filmmaker.

We have already assured 40% of our budget thanks to JenovaPro, an independent production company, which engaged with our project as co-producers. JenovaPro’s contribution will provide the technical equipment needed for each of the production stages as well as part of the crew. Our project is based on a collective working system, meaning that each member of the film crew provides a contribution and reaches out for more contributions.

Since quite some time, Sayda takes care of Juana, her grand-mother. Juana suffers from dementia. On the eve of her birthday, the coldest day of the winter, Sayda tries to recover her previous life.

What will we do with your contributions

The amount will be used to cover the following expenses:

-Paying the salaries of the artistic and technical crew.

-Covering the expenses incurred by the art direction (props, costumes, etc).

-Covering production and logistics expenses incurred during the shooting.

Perks will be distributed once the short movie will be completed. This will happen in early 2015, when we will start distributing it through festivals and spaces for exhibition.
