Carne de penal

“Carne de Penal” is a short film project based on a story by renowned author Eduardo Mendicutti, from his book “Fuego de Marzo” (Fire of March, 1995, Tusquets). It narrates two stories: the platonic love that a young nanny develops for a political prisoner during the Franco regime; and the tender and innocent awakening of homosexual desire in the child that the nanny cares for.

Every Sunday, Charo and Fernando go to see Eusebio, the prisoner, look out from behind the bars of his cell where he has been locked away for being a “red” until, one day, they are met with a surprise that will lead the nanny and child to live an unexpected adventure.

The story is set in the province of Cádiz in the 1950’s and, although it is a drama, humor and tenderness are integral parts of the story.

The filming will take place at the end of the September 2014 and last three days. The rewards will be distributed during the first trimester of 2015.
