ENLACES. Oaxaca-Asturias

This idea was conceived out of the need to brake down barriers. Not physical barriers but artistic ones. We know that Latin-American art has a very different vision and concept than our own. Without a doubt this Project will be greatly rewarding not only for the artists who are collaborating with our Workshops and for those who sponsor this Project, but it will have an enriching quality for the artistic dialogue and vocabulary of those who have a chance to interact with the finished prints.

To begin this journey of connecting with other places we have chosen the city of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. A world famous destination for those travelers who look for a place steeped in culture and a very important and thriving artistic community.

We want to invite two well known artists from world of printmaking in Oaxaca, Cesar Chavez and Christopher Diaz. During two weeks they will let us be a part of their creative approach and process. While at Alchemy Prints they will labor on the creation of various limited edition prints, as well as printing t-shirts and other excellent items to share with those who sponsor their adventure.

The project will take place in Paraje Villanueva a small village, situated in a very unique enclave in the North of Spain. The workshop is situated among pristine nature where it shares creative endeavors along side other workshops. If you would like to know more about this village, please follow the link at the bottom of this page.

This artistic residence includes the travel of the artists, as well as all expenses related to their stay. It also includes all the technical and human resources necessary to successfully fulfill the objectives of the project.

During their two week stay the artist will work in the workshop, visit places of artistic and cultural interest in the region. They will also take part in a workshop where those sponsors who want to interact with the artist will have a chance to do so.

The resulting works of art that the artists will create while at the workshop will be in a show in the gallery Sala Lai, in the city of Gijon. The dates for this show will be determined at a later date. All those who sponsor the project and want to collect their rewards at the show may do so on the day of this event.

Note: The rewards that are pictured on this page are different from the ones which the sponsors of the project will receive. Those rewards will be created specially for this project.

WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE USED FOR

Your contributions will be destined to pay for all the expenses of the trip of the invited artist; airline tickets, transportation while at the workshop, food and all other related expenses while in Spain.

We will also use part of the funds to cover the expenses for the materials necessary to create the art, such as paper, ink, t-shirts, cloth shopping bags as well as the setting up of the show at the gallery. The funds will also help to pay for part of the shipping of the rewards for the sponsors of the project.

CALENDAR

The contact with the artist, the preliminary aspects of the creative process as well as the preparation of some of the images for the making of the rewards is already in progress.

The artistic residence aspect of the project by the artists is scheduled to take place during the last two weeks in September of 2014. However, the initial rewards like t-shirts and shopping bags will be shipped to the sponsors during the month of July of 2014.

The t-shirts and bags will be the first to be shipped, but those rewards like the fine art prints will be created during the artists stay, therefore they will be delivered after the gallery show is unveiled.

For those sponsors who are farther away or may not be able to attend the show at the gallery, your rewards will be delivered during the month of October 2014.
