Todo a la Basura is a 30 minute documentary set in the vibrant backdrop of Barcelona that follows the lives of a few very different and unconventional environmentalists who are connected through their shared struggles from surviving off what society regards as waste.

While a young local designer dedicates herself to breathing new life into old, unwanted clothes, a middle aged Pakistani man scavenges what cans he can from the trash so that he may convert them to ashtrays, selling them on the street to support himself and his family. Where a bohemian woman who has found an inventive way of turning unwanted tyres into stunning pieces of fashion fights to gets her business off the ground, others fight merely to get by like the immigrant scrap metal workers whose enduring lifelong friendship is the only constant in their unstable lives.

In the midst of the economic crisis all their lives have been cast into uncertainty but that doesn’t deter them. When you look closer at them all you find a dignity, humbleness and humour to their lives that makes them all the more endearing.

To follow the exciting journey of this production and to get a glimpse at the exciting world of unofficial recycling in Barcelona you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
