Opera Premiere 'Cobriu-me amb la senyera'

Catalonia is the lovely motherland that has always been oppressed. Now it's the time that with a single voice we proclaim it a sovereign nation. She is free, as the seawave, the birds, the fire and love are free. If our hearts all beat as one, we will raise the "estelada" (starred flag).

Catalonia has given the world great opera singers -Montserrat Caballé, Josep Carreras, Victòria dels Àngels, Jaume Aragall, ... In spite of that, Catalan operas are rarely performed.

A DATE TO REMEMBER

13 September, 2014. On this day (at 9 pm), if you make it possible through your contribution, we will premiere the opera at the theatre La Faràndula, Sabadell's Opera House. The venue is located on Alfonso XIII street, very close to two train stations -RENFE and FGC / Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat).

ABOUT ...

Try to visualize it. 35 musicians in the orchestra, a choir of over 40 singers, 8 soloists, music director, stage director, scenographer, wardrobe and costume technicians, lighting technicians ... Either on the stage or in the backstage, there are around 90 people operating in a scenic space of 200 square meters.

THE PLOT

1. The final years of the dictatorship. Strikes, social conflict, demonstrations, power struggles and conspiracies, the execution of Puig Antich murdered by the State. In the middle of it, two people on a quest for life meaning, discover love together -Joan, a worker-priest, and Magda, married to a powerful industrialist. The opera has a tragic and at the same time triumphant ending -an explosion of individual and national freedom that overrides all the surrounding obstacles.

Ramon Ribécomposer and writer, has authored the music.
Laura Vila mezzosoprano, will sing the lead role of Magda.
Joan Garcia Gomà baritone, in the lead role of Joan.
Jordi Voltas poet, playwright and stage director, has written the libretto.
Frederic Oller conductor, frequent collaborator of the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, who has been teaching at the Conservatori de Sabadell since 1998, is the musical director.

Cor d'amics de l'Òpera de Sabadell They have been invited to act as the main chorus of the opera, while performing also in several smaller choirs - workers, demonstrators,

WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL PAY

Producing an opera is expensive. Among other things, it means adding together an orchestra of over 30 musicians, great singers, good scenery, costume designers, lightning technicians, props designers, projectionists, ...

The contributions we receive -yours will be one of them, are destined to pay for the opera production, as shown in the graph below.

SCHEDULE CALENDAR

The site of the project (this page on Verkami) will be open to contributions till early January. Then, if you have made it possible, we will start work on the opera production.

February Meetings with singers, chorus, and orchestra to go over the score and hand out parts.

March-May Partial and separate music rehearsals of chorus, orchestra and singers with the music director.

June Partial and separate staging rehearsals of chorus and singers with the music director.

July Full rehearsals of singers and chorus accompanied on the piano, with stage director and stage director.

August Summer break.

September. Week 1. Technical rehearsal and last full rehearsals.

September 8 and 9. Preparation of scenery and lightning at the Faràndula Theatre.

September 10. Orchestra staging rehearsal. All the elements of the opera are brought together.

September 12. Dress rehearsal.

September 13. Opening night.

HOW DO WE GET OUR REWARDS?

DVDs will be sent after the opera DVD has been edited (about 20 days after the opening night).

Tickets are collected, upon identification, from the ticket counters at the Faràndula Theatre in Sabadell on the day of the opening.

Sponsorship certificates will be delivered personally to the sponsors.
