The SUMMERMUSE Photobook.

Welcome to SUMMER MUSE, an open project that I have been working on for more than ten years, which consists of painting watercolor portraits of live models in idyllic spots along the Mallorcan coast.

Many of these drawings have been compiled in books published by Editorial Diábolo, which can be purchased here and here. But in addition to drawing, I also ask the models for permission to take photographs of them. Although some of these photographs have been published, censored, on the project's Instagram, most remain unpublished.

The aim of this Verkami campaign is to compile the best of these snapshots in a lavish book of over 300 color pages.

Almost all of the photographs share female nudity as their main theme. But this is not going to be just another book of artistic nudes. Here there are no artificial poses by professional models who tend to repeat the same contortions. Here you will not find uniform bodies, artificial studio lighting, or backdrop fabric.

Here, the main light is natural, that of the August sun on a naturist beach in Mallorca. And the bodies that appear are those that each model brings from home, whatever they may be, as all are welcome. The attitude is also that of each model, with their own idiosyncrasies. Some are more anonymous, others more explicit.

The poses are improvised, or there are no poses at all. A stretch after posing for a drawing, a walk on the rocks, a dip in the water to cool off. In this sense, this book functions as a making-of of the SUMMER MUSE drawing sessions, although it is also a project in its own right.

• The SUMMERMUSE Photobook will publish the SUMMER PORTRAITS series of photographs for the first time, uncensored. This series consists of small drawn portraits that the model superimposes over her own face, leaving her identity ambiguous.

• This book will also include the BELLY WISDOM series, in which I write phrases that appeal to us directly onto the model. Soon, the words will be erased by the waves of the sea.

What the book will be like

It will have more than 300 full-color pages, bound in paperback with flaps, and measure approximately 16 x 24 cm. Most of the photographs will be printed full-page and bleed. This way, all the details can be appreciated without wasting paper.

I will self-publish this book in a limited edition (very limited) that will not be commercially distributed. The only way to get it will be through this Verkami, or in the future through my online store (possibly at a higher price and without extras).

Furthermore, the physical paper edition will be the only one available. There will be no digital version of this book, for three reasons: to reinforce its unique character, to limit the possible dissemination of the images it contains, and because for a nostalgic person like me, the experience of turning printed pages is not comparable to a cold scroll.

The technical aspects of the book will be simple but impeccable. I have already designed numerous art and photography books, some self-published and others published by American publishers. So the technical side is covered.

Who am I?

I work professionally as a comic book artist for American publishers, drawing the superheroes we all know. When summer comes, I take advantage of the fact that I live in Mallorca and swap my studio for the beach. There, I draw for pleasure rather than work. I then share these drawings with the models who have kindly agreed to pose, without whom this project would not exist.

Use of contributions and schedule

100% of the money raised will go towards the printing and shipping of the book. The extras I am offering are already complete, and I do not expect to be compensated for the time invested, as this is a project born out of enjoyment and a desire to create. I think it is important to note that all the models have agreed to collaborate on this project free of charge. None of them have received any remuneration in exchange, except for some of the drawings and all my past and future books.

The book has already been designed and laid out. All that remains are the final touches and any last-minute changes. Printing takes about a month. So I expect all the books to be shipped about two months after the end of the campaign, which I estimate will be in May 2026.
