Nyuma: The Last Dance of Life

🌿 PRESENTATION

Through the Bellànima project, I was able to experience how dance can transform the way we inhabit life in old age, especially for elderly people in care homes and day centers who often feel invisible.

This experience has intertwined with my lifelong desire to accompany people in the dying process and has led me to take a further step: now, with the Laquebaila project, I want to open a pathway of end-of-life accompaniment, bringing movement and presence to hospitals, care homes, and private homes.

With this campaign on Verkami, I am seeking funding to carry out a pilot program at Mataró Hospital, accompanying people in palliative and terminal care, called Nyuma: the Last Dance of Life.

My goal is to alleviate human suffering and dignify the final stage of life through dance and presence.

✨ Laquebaila: movement of the soul

Laquebaila is a main project born from the desire to accompany people through movement and presence. Its core is dance and the Manuvisió technique, a body-based and therapeutic practice that works with the body, breath, and conscious contact.

We believe that suffering can not only be endured but also transformed when it is recognized, embraced, and shared through presence.

Currently, Laquebaila unfolds through two paths:
• La Rosa del desert: bodily expression for old age, which is already active.
• Nyuma: the Last Dance of Life: a space for end-of-life accompaniment, seeking funding to launch its first pilot program at Mataró Hospital.

Our goal is to alleviate human suffering and dignify the final moments of life through dance and presence.

🌸 Nyuma: last dance of life

The project is named Nyuma in honor of a Gambian girl I met at an NGO in Bajakunda. Shortly after I returned, she died of malaria. She had a light and eyes full of life, a smile capable of illuminating any path. Her memory inspires and guides this project.

👩‍🦰 Who am I?

I am Patri Mas, dancer, actress, body therapist, and stage creator. I understand art as a path of exploration, communication, and transformation.

My work is nourished by three pillars:
• inner awareness,
• collective consciousness,
• and a commitment to honest creation.

Creating connections, sharing processes, and reinterpreting experiences through the body and art are my tools to bring beauty and truth to the world.

Although Laquebaila is a personal project, I am supported by a group of professionals who guide me and collaborate in the different phases of the Nyuma project.

At the same time, I have the advice and support of professionals from the Mataró Hospital and from the care homes for older adults where I am carrying out the La Rosa del Desierto project, who contribute their experience and perspective to ensure the quality of the proposal and that the accompaniment is carried out with sensitivity, respect, and care.

This network of affection and knowledge allows the project to grow solidly, remaining rooted in the dialogue between art, health, and life.

The funds raised will be allocated to:
• Implementation of the pilot project at Mataró Hospital: project design, production, and evaluation, with the possibility of replicating the project in other centers, and creation of audiovisual material.
• Production of the rewards.

📅 Planned Schedule

• September - October 2025 → Launch of the Verkami campaign.
• Fall 2025 → Design of the “Nyuma” pilot project.
• December 2025 - January 2026 → Start of the “Nyuma” pilot project at Mataró Hospital.
• January 2026 → Delivery of rewards to backers.
