ELECTRONIC MUSIC IN SPAIN (PART 1)

Three decades of music press photographs taken at festivals, conferences, interviews, and concerts represent a vast collection of material : archives including more than 800 bands, half of which are related to electronic music (house, techno, dance music, minimal, ambient, experimental, electro pop, techno pop, etc.).

THE YEARS: 1995-2015

This was a landmark period which, thanks to the sharing of these graphic archives, will now become part of our cultural memory. The stories of those who lived through the golden age of electronic music (national and international artists and DJs, journalists, managers, concert promoters, festival and club directors, VJs, graphic designers, audiences, etc.) allow us to imagine, relive, discover, and understand these 20 years, a key moment in the rise of electronic music in Spain.

A TWO-PART WORK

Electronic music in Spain (1995-2015) consists of two books that complete a trilogy on the independent music scene.

• BOOK 1:
  Indieside: The independent music scene in Spain in the 90s Published in 2022.

• BOOK 2:
  *Electronic music in Spain (1995-2015)*Part 1. Publication scheduled for 2026.

• BOOK 3:
  *Electronic music in Spain (1995-2015)*Part 2. Publication scheduled for 2027.

This Verkami campaign is for Part 1 of the book Electronic music in Spain.
Part 2 is scheduled for 2027, also on Verkami.

So far more than 200 participants from 17 countries have been confirmed, and nearly 100 authentic personal writings have been collected. Further confirmations are expected before the final publication of the first book.

Inclusion and distribution of artists and contributors in each of the two books will depend on final confirmation of image permissions as well as receipt of texts.

AUTHOR: NATHALIE PACO


For over 30 years, music press photographer Nathalie Paco has been capturing the Spanish music scene, which has led her to travel and cover various musical movements on a national scale. The most significant being the indie scene of the 1990s and the rise of electronic music between the late 1990s and the early 21st century. She was the official photographer for the Benicassim International Festival for over 10 years, director of photography for the independent music magazine Spiral, and director of the photo agency Todayimages (2012-2025).

Nathalie Paco published her first book, Indieside: The Independent Music Scene in Spain in the 1990s, in 2022 thanks to the contribution of 231 patrons. Three years after the first edition, a second book will be published thanks to your support.

DESIGN AND LAYOUT



Paloma Losada and Jorge Palomar will bring this project to life in their TeaForTwo studio. Among their many creations are numerous posters for the Benicasim Festival, as well as the design and layout of INDIESIDE.


A PERSONAL PROJECT THAT RESPECTS COPYRIGHT AND IMAGE RIGHTS

This exclusive, alternative, and independent book will be available exclusively on Verkami and will be published in a limited edition of 700 copies. There will be no digital version, no distributor, no sponsor, and no subsidy. Your contributions will finance this project.

In order to protect the image rights of those featured, we consulted Ainara LeGardon, a musician and expert in copyright and image rights. This book therefore has the necessary authorizations for the use of texts and photos.

What are the benefits of using crowdfunding?

This allows for a closer and more logical relationship between the author and buyers, without intermediaries, publishers, or distributors.

It makes it possible to gauge the public's real interest and adjust print runs according to actual demand.

How long does the campaign last? 40 days.

I didn't have to provide a shipping address. How do I get my reward? Once the crowdfunding campaign is over, all contributors will receive an email to complete their shipping information.

Is there an extra charge for shipments outside Spain? Yes. If you live outside Spain, you will be responsible for the shipping costs. To do this, add the Standard Delivery Europe or Standard Delivery International shipping surcharge.

Is shipping standard or registered? Standard shipping costs are included for Spain only. If you would like registered shipping, don't forget to add the corresponding supplement for your place of residence: Registered Delivery Spain, Europe Registered Delivery, or International Registered Delivery.
