Las Noches – A short film about grief and hope.

Hello! We are Marie González and Andrés Lyon, co-directors of Las Noches.

This short film is our directorial debut as a team and also our final degree project in Audiovisual Communication. Our goal is for Las Noches to go beyond being just an academic project and become a professional piece that can reach festivals and a wider audience.

To achieve this, we are launching this crowdfunding campaign on Verkami. We want to provide the production with a proper budget to make this film as professional as possible within our student level. According to our production plan, we have set a goal of 500€, an amount that will allow us to cover essential expenses such as filming, post-production, and distribution.

LAS NOCHES

Las Noches is a story about grief, loneliness, and the need to move forward. The protagonist, Alba, gets trapped in a memory from the past. As she struggles with her own pain and isolation, a revealing dream becomes a turning point, forcing her to confront her fears and make the decision to move on.

This short film will be shot in settings that enhance its introspective nature, with a black and white aesthetic that plays with contrasts between light and darkness to reinforce the protagonist's emotional state.

Some key locations include symbolically charged interiors, urban spaces that reflect the protagonist's isolation, and dreamlike environments, following the style of filmmakers such as Ingmar Bergman and Chantal Akerman.

Combining a classic narrative with experimental elements from both contemporary and historical avant-gardes—from the tonal shifts of the Nouvelle Vague to the slow pacing of New Galician Cinema—Las Noches is designed as an ambiguous work, capable of captivating a broad range of audiences: it embraces a cinema that is both accessible and complex.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?

The project is currently in the pre-production phase. The money we raise will be carefully invested to cover the costs of transportation for the crew members, as well as the necessary equipment for filming (lighting, camera, props, wardrobe, and more). Additionally, we will ensure that all meals during filming are covered, guaranteeing the well-being of the team.

The budget is not limited to these aspects, as a significant portion will also go towards submitting the short film to various film festivals, both nationally and internationally, expanding its reach and potential impact.

ESTIMATED TIMELINE

We estimate that filming will begin in mid-April, post-production will start in May, and the short film will be completed by early June.

ABOUT US

Above all, we have been friends for many years, and we are also students of Audiovisual Communication at the University of Santiago de Compostela. While this is our first co-directed project, we previously created a small class project called Redención.

This project is not just about us—it is a collaboration with a team of students from the same university, each bringing different semi-professional cultural backgrounds.
