SUZKO IRUDIAK (‘Fire Images’) is a selection of images created by photographer Nagore Legarreta during four trips to India. The archive is made up of 700 photographs, and now the goal is to edit, arrange and publish the work in a special matchbox format, and with a soundtrack written specifically for the project. The project is scheduled to be published in the autumn of 2024.
Will you be giving socks as a present this Christmas? Wouldn’t it be better to give this splash of colour and fire to fight the winter cold? (If it gets really bad, you can even set it on fire ; )

WHY SUPPORT THIS PROJECT?
ONE. Because it breaks free from usual photographic travel perspectives and stereotyped images.
Leaving to one side photographic trips’ usual styles and stereotypes, a different way to explore our surroundings opens up. It goes beyond the National Geographic approach, and is an exploration of other
ways of relating to the environment and its inhabitants. That is why Nagore took photos with a camera built from a matchbox instead of using a camera worth a fortune.
TWO. Because it accepts mistakes, and encourages an attitude which works for us..
This matchbox camera had a construction defect: the hole that let light into the camera was too big, which made the pictures slightly out-of-focus. That activated the photographer's imagination, and she sought out the strength of the images in their light, shade and colours. Streams of sunlight run through the images.
THREE. Colour. Pleasure for the eyes, and the basis for the project’s structure.
The images in the book form a palette of vivid colours. During the edition process they were organized like coloured wheels or cycles. At dawn in Varanasi, from morning light by the Ganges to street life in the midday shade, and on to images in darkness. Among them, cows, cows and cows... cows everywhere. Don't miss your chance to obtain this special book-object; there is a limited edition of 150-200 copies.
FOUR. A special gift for winter; aesthetics that warm you up.
Are you feeling a bit down? Are you tired of the rain on your back all the time? Do you keep looking down at the ground, your body crouched over because of the cold? Pick up the book and run through all
the colours (* clinically proven to cheer you up). And if the worst comes to the worst, you can light the match and set the book on fire to warm things up!
FIVE. Soundtrack and performance specially created for the project.
In addition to the images, the book will have its own soundtrack that you can listen to via QR. The trio working on the soundtrack is made up of Mariano Hurtado (Hysteron, Inoreneroni, Anari, Manchuria...), Nerea Garrido (Jupiter Jon), and Beñat Iturrioz (Hysteron, soundtracks, percussion). The book is scheduled to be published in the autumn of 2024. We are also working to turn the project into a live show,in a very special context yet to be revealed.
SIX. Format and design.
The book will be published in 17x24 cm matchbox sleeves, from which they can be taken out vertically. The matchboxes will have a vivid, psychedelic illustration by Ramon Martinez Zabalegi. On one side of
the box you can see a psychedelic landscape by a river which reflects the aesthetics of Indian matchboxes. On the other side is the same landscape, but at night. DIDART (Oihana Pagola) designed the book and its sleeve.
SEVEN. This is going to be Zikinbrillo self-publishing platform’s first project.
My father gave me the nickname Zikinbrillo (‘Dirtyshiny’) because of my way of doing things, and that idea has become an aesthetic trend in our small community of creators. One of the things we have learned
during our shared creative processes (projects, workshops...) has been that everyone has their own way of making things and creating with their hands. A special balance between nerves, relaxation and tension.
That is the way my hands do things: the tension, the rush, the desire to control the uncontrollable, and, at the same time, create something "beautiful". A rough-and-ready tribute to beauty? Or a beautiful homage to being rough-and-ready?
