Dotze Temps is my third solo work, a mix of instrumental tunes and songs, both original compositions and traditional themes, that capture my experience over the last three years.
The title, Dotze Temps ( Doce Tiempos in spanish), refers to the twelve beats prevalent in flamenco styles.
This new album is born from several influences: starting from Bluegrass, it passes through Catalan traditions and arrives at Flamenco.
Flamenco is a style has always somehow been present, but it has become more and more importance for me since the pandemic, and thanks to the support of Béla Fleck, Martino Coppo, Tony Trischka, the Flatheads and Carol Duran among others.
Who I am?
I have been traveling the world with the 5-string banjo, and my unique way of understanding music, for more than 25 years. I have worked under artists like Bill Keith, Tony Trischka, Jayme Stone, and Jean Marie Redon and have participated in courses from, among others, Béla Fleck, Pete Wernick, and Noam Pikelny.
My lengthy career has given me the opportunity to participate in many projects, both musical, cinematic, and theatrical. I enjoy being a regular instructor at several international music camps, teach classes, and write regularly for various publications; MelBay, Banjo Newsletter and Dinsic.
The musicians who accompany me
Maribel Rivero, double bass and voice, known in the bluegrass scene in our country, plays with Les Violines, FlamenGrass and Soroll Blanc, and several more groups. She is a pillar of Bluegrass in Barcelona.
Raphaël Maillet is a renowned French violinist based in Paris. You can see him playing all over Europe with his Accordzeam project.
Ondra Kozák, from the Czech Republic, is a multi-instrumentalist and renowned musician on the international bluegrass scen, who plays regularly with mandolinist Radim Zenkl.
This past year we have played together in France, Ireland and Catalonia, and this lineup will be the official band at Dotze Temps presentations and performances during 2024.
This album will also feature some collaborations, but I prefer to keep these a secret, hehe!
Art graphic design, video and photography
In addition to music, for me the visual part that accompanies a recording work is very important, in this campaign and on the album I am accompanied by Oriol Forn, Marina Vinardell and Laura Ruíz
About rewards
You can select from all kinds of rewards if you decide to contribute to the project. You can buy a physical CD, or you can download the album in MP3 along with the graphic design, to listen to whenever you want..
The first reward is totally altruistic, a selfless contribution to the project, with nothing expected in return– just the pleasure of knowing you helped to bring the album into being. It can also be an addition to a reward you have already made. I will be eternally grateful, and if you come for a concert or jam I will give you a big hug!
Another reward is a cotton tote bag and sticker pack designed by Marina Vinadell. Marina is the fantastic designer of the CD. Why the Catalan word “Somriu”?. It translate to “Smile" in English. It’s common for banjo players to have a serious and concentrated face when they are playing. For many years now, to remind me not look to serious, I place a drawing of a banjo with a smile next to my set list at concerts- that's how this logo was born.
Class pack. I teach banjo, mandolin, and fiddle classes regularly, so this can be a very attractive reward for those of you who want to begin or improve with your instrument.
The last reward is a private concert: invite your friends and family (in the garden, terrace or dining room) to listen to the new songs in an intimate and exclusive setting. The format can be soloist, duo or trio.
What will I use your contributions for?
Planned schedule
Dotze Temps is a self-financed album, like most of my works, made with the support of the Microscopi record label.
Producing an album is a slow and tedious process, it requires a lot of work, calm and, above all, a lot of patience. Your contributions will make the publication of this album possible. They will go towards recording expenses, manufacturing of the physical album, promotional campaign, videos, photos, production, mixing/mastering, and art design.
Planned schedule
The release of the album is scheduled for June 2024. Then, you can collect your rewards in person at a concert, or we can arrange delivery case by case (either by hand or by mail).
For the digital download, you will receive a link the day after the album is published.
