A dark, closed room, a cuckoo clock, five hired killers dressed in shining yellow and a clueless girl who doesn’t know why she’s there and who are they. This mysterious and uncertain situation is the basis for Serial Number, a homage to the thriller and suspense genres, with uncertainty and mistrust as key elements. If your eye has been already caught by this setting, keep reading and come along with us to this unsettling world populated by hired guns, gangsters and “pay jobs”. We are already in it and we can tell you it is fun and interesting but certainly dangerous so the more we are, the safer we will be. Come in and help us successfully complete our “pay job”. Mind you, you may not want to exit this world once you’re in it…

In a closed, dark room, five mysterious HIRED KILLERS gather prior to a “job”. Their names are in code: they are FORTY-FOUR, FORTY-TWO, NINETEEN, THIRTY-ONE and TWENTY. They know each other and they have previously work together, some of them friends, some of them not looking eye to eye. The five are all dressed in fashionable, flashy and sparkling, yellow blazers. They wait for the remaining sixth member of the team… which turns out to be an unknown person, someone dressed in the same way but in RED: it’s a young GIRL. The GIRL in RED is unsettled and disoriented and she does not know the five killers. She doesn’t even know how she arrived there nor the nature of the men’s job. RED will be the source of mistrust and suspicion between the killers, being in the middle of the violent conflicts that will spark between the men, putting both the job and her life at risk…

REFERENCES

Serial Numbers is a homage to the thriller and suspense genre, presenting a situation and elements found in many of the aforementioned films. Most of them are renown examples of the genre, with crime, robberies and killings as the main elements. All of them present a similar premise such as that of the shortfilm: tough, simple-minded criminals not acquainted with each other who have to deal with a circumstance that puts the job and themselves at risk, raising suspicion and doubtfulness among them.

Serial Numbers presents the very main traits of those films: cynical, mistrusting male characters, a derelict place that serves as their hideout and a clear element which constitutes the root of suspense and uncertainty, the character of the GIRL in RED. Overall, the plot of Serial Number has suspense as the key element of the plot.

-Alberto Muñoz-Fonseca is the writer and director of Serial Numbers, his second short film. He is ex-alumnus of Septima Ars Cinema and Television School (Madrid, Spain) There he directed his first short film Sledge Hammer, which received the following accolades:

Alejandro Moreno is the Director of Photography. Graduate of ECAM (Madrid, Spain) He has been the director of photography of several short films and commercials. He is an expert in several recording formats, including 35mm. Web, Instagram

Sherezade Garo is the Production Manager. Through her own company, Garo Films, she has contributed to the production of various short films. Former student at Instituto del Cine and Makkers School ( both in Madrid, Spain). She has worked for productions made for Amazon Studios and Netflix.

Paula Rivera is the First Assistant Director. She has taken part in many areas of filmmaking: she has worked as a director, editor and actor. She has been the assistant director and producer of more than fifteen projects. Former Student at Metropolis school (Madrid, Spain) Instagram

Agustín Rezza is the Sound Designer. He is credited in more than ten short films in which he has been member of the sound crew with several functions, such as, sound designer, boom operator and foley and sound post producer. Instagram

Hodei Baile is the Production Designer. He is a multidisciplinary artist, having shown his personal artistic touch in short films, stage dramas, and narrative writings. Instagram

Mario Córdoba is the Head of Make-up and FX Department. Under his own personal brand, Lagartija FX, he has been in charge of make-up and characterization in many short films, with preference for the thriller and horror genres. He has expertise as well in the area of production.

Laura Arribas is the Costume Designer. Apart from fashion designing and window dressing, Laura has been part of the costume team in many A-List productions such as While at War (Alejandro Amenábar, 2019), Game of Thrones and Mulan (Niki Caro, 2020)

Cast

Michael Collis is Twenty, the most veteran and hard-boiled of the assassins. He’s capable and professional and he is the leader, a methodic and experienced killer, always concerned for the success of the jobs. Red’s presence in the room will put those skills to a test…

Michael doesn’t only have credits in short films and low-key projects, he is also credited in top productions such as La Novia Gitana (Paco Cabezas, 2022) TV Series or films like La Abuela (Paco Plaza, 2022). Web.

José Vicente is Nineteen a cold and serious hired gun, the suspicious, nervous guy when plans don’t turn out as predicted. He will be one of the key characters in this tense and uncertain situation that is presented.

José is an actor with predilection for the stage; he has credits as an actor, stage director and producer. He has been casted as well in several short films, with special preference for thriller and sci-fi.

In every “pay job” there’s always a top professional, someone cold who applies logic for the success of the plans while being quick and thorough. That professional is Thirty-One, interpreted by Salvatore Langella.

No one better for this type of character than Sal, not only due to his more than adequate appearance or exotic procedence, but because he has been casted in similar roles through his US based career. Alberto Muñoz-Fonseca is Forty-Four, one of the youngest killers. He may seem trivial and funny but he is still a dangerous person.

Apart from writing and directing, Alberto has opted for directing himself in front of the camera, a true challenge for an actor with only stage appearances.

Forty-Two is Forty-Four’s best friend. Both of them are the “comedic” duo of the group in the tradition of famous killer duos of the genre. Forty-Two is not as sharp as his friend, definitively slower. However, along with Forty-Four, he’s ruthless and brutal.

Dan Paterson is currently in drama school, getting deeper in the art of acting. However, he’s already got several acting credits in short films and stage Web

Elena Torres is Red. Red is the main character of the short film, his dramatic entrance in the room being the source of conflict between the hired killers and her nature is the main motif of suspense. Her dress code is different, she is of the opposite gender; she does not appear to be as hard and cold as a hired gun.

Red is the only woman in this crime story. She is the femme fatale. No one better than the promising young actress Elena Torres to star as this character, a experienced theatre actress. Elena may not have too many screen credits but her presence and personality definitely make her a star in the making Instagram

These are the following rewards that will be awarded to the crowdfunders. Every contribution will be credited and those of 40€ or more will mean that their donor will be credited as “Associate Producer”.
