The documentary tells the story of a love that began and grew against the backdrop of dictatorship.

Georgian director Irakli Kordzaia started filming Dimitri and Anastasia's daily lives in Belarus three years ago, continued in Kyiv, and now he is observing them in Poland.

The main character, Dimitry Polyenko is a 27-year old Belarussian civil activist. He has been a member of opposition groups since the age of 17 and is still active in the protest movement.

Anastasia is a 23-year old Belarussian civil activist. The couple met at a political protest against the Lukashenko regime, and their romantic and dramatic story began there.

Dimitri was arrested by police for creating a stencil that said "Police Kills" on one of Minsk's walls. Anastasia was homeless after Dimitry's arrest, so one of the activists gave her a room in her attic.

After Dimitri’s release, the police arrested his accomplice, a girl. There was a threat that she would extradite them, and the couple was forced to leave the country immediately. They made the decision in an hour and fled the country for fear of re-arrest and persecution to enter Poland through Kiev.

The main part of the documentary has already been shot. We must continue filming in Warsaw, where the couple is in exile, in order to complete the documentary.

The episode in Warsaw is the most significant part of the film.

Here we need to find out:

  • How the characters adapt to the new, free, quiet environment in Europe;

  • They have to show themselves fully.

  • It must be found out if they take the path of conformism or continue to fight the authoritarian regime.

  • How well-coordinated is the Belarussian IDP diaspora? Are they united, or are they divided? Did their troubles and persecution bring them together, or not? Are they going to return to their homeland or prefer to stay in Europe's peaceful environment?

Who we are:

Irakli Kordzaia (director) left his home country, Georgia, in 2017 and is now living in exile in Warsaw. The reason for leaving was his journalistic and civil activities to uncover corruption and wrongdoing within the Georgian government.

In 2020, Irakli Kordzaia directed his first documentary, "Woman From Belarus," about the oldest Belarussian activist, Nina Baginskaya. The film was a huge success in Belarus. The documentary was included in the competition section of the Biarritz Film Festival. After that, the director was denied entry to Belarus last year. This fact has clearly demonstrated how freedom of expression is restricted in Belarus, as well as how those who do not support the regime are treated. Since 2019, the director has been observing and filming young Belarussian activists fighting against the authoritarian regime.

Giorgi Lomsadze (montage editor) - for more than 10 years has been working as a cameraman and editor for the Rustavi 2 TV company. He was also a producer of international projects. Since 2013, he has been the director of Radio Liberty's TV products, as well as the CEO of "Ezo Group".

Maka Bibilashvili (producer) – is a journalist, editor, and producer. She worked as a reporter and editor for several Georgian-English magazines, including Focus Magazine, Tbilisi Out, Where.ge Magazine, and Georgian Railways Magazine. Now she is the producer of the production company, "Formo".

Planned Calendar:

We’re planning to continue filming the documentary in February 2022 and finish it in two months.

After that, we'll begin editing the film, which we hope to complete by the summer.

The documentary should be finished by the middle of the year.

Following that, we will submit the documentary to film festivals. By the autumn of 2022, the documentary could be released anywhere.

What your contributions will be used for:

70% of the documentary has already been shot. Only the final episode and editing are left.

We hope to get 2,500 euros from the Verkami sponsors, and the rest will be provided by the team members.

1200 euros will be provided for filming in Warsaw, and the rest, 1300 euros, and the team members’ funds for editing and final expenses.

Your support is very important.

Patrons will receive their rewards by the autumn of 2022.
