The project
33% of the money raised will go directly to the producers participating in this project
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, many small farmers and producers of Catalonia have seen their sales drop suddenly. A lot of them relied on restaurants, tourism, school canteens and local markets which have been closed or cancelled these last months.
With this initiative, we aim to support them as well as to preserve our unique gastronomic heritage. Time has come to create a new world where local, organic and sustainable become the new norm. And why not do it in a fun and creative way?
That's why we thought of a unique challenge: take a 100-day tour of Catalonia, visiting plenty of small and sustainable food and wine producers.
How will the tour help them?
1) The web series
Through weekly videos, we'll share the visits to the local producers, the specificities about each project and anecdotes about their work.
It will be a unique opportunity to educate a wider audience about the unknown aspects of small-scale production and organic agriculture.
And, of course, we'll produce unique recipe videos to show how to make the best of their wonderful products.
2) Gastronomic events
Apart from the web series, we'll offer several food and farm-related events during the 100-day tour of Catalonia.
Each event will be different and will consist of at least a visit of a farm or producer followed by a tasting of their products.
Some events will also include applied workshops with our farmers (such as a cooking class, a cheese-making or a fermentation workshop for example).
3) The producers' network
Our goal is to have a network of about 50 Catalan producers that provides direct access to their products for consumer purchase.
Consumers will be able to easily and affordably purchase through the network all sorts of products (see list below) which will always be local (from the Catalan region), organic and produced on a small scale.
On one side, the consumers will be able to obtain greater traceability of the products. On the other, the farmers will enjoy an additional sales channel.
With that project, we hope to re-create a more personal and long-lasting connection between farmers and consumers.
What do we need for this project?
We'll travel from province to province with an optimized itinerary to visit the maximum of producers driving as little as possible. We'll use our own car and a tent to sleep at night in the fields of the producers participating in the project.
But this is not all... We needed something special and essential to make this tour come true.
It took us several weeks to find out about it... but eventually, the solution came to us: we needed the Farmers' Truck!
¿What?
The Farmers' Truck is a tiny food trailer that will become our kitchen for the tour.
Thanks to the Farmers' Truck, we'll be able to store the different products of the tour and cook them during the gastronomic events -even if we have to host them in the middle of the field.
It will also allow us to have a kitchen set-up to make food videos for the web series.
About us
We're Cristina and Guillaume (known as Guillermo), an entrepreneur couple. We founded Barcelona Slow Travel, a tour company offering authentic and sustainable experiences in Catalonia, Spain.
Since over 7 years, we've been inviting international travellers to discover the authentic Catalan gastronomy through unique food and wine tours and farm visits.
Our business is currently suffering the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis since March and we don't expect to go back to normal until next year. We see this situation as a unique opportunity for us to reinvent ourselves and to make our dream of connecting local people and producers come true.
We can already count on the participation of plenty of local producers for this project.
You're the final piece of the puzzle!
About the rewards
Would you like to help us out? By participating in our crowdfunding campaign, you can pick a reward that will allow you to participate in-person to our 100-day tour of Catalonia!
And if you're living abroad and don't feel like coming in Catalonia this summer/fall, we have activated exclusive private tours that can be claimed anytime after the end of our 100-day tour! No expiry date!
These are the rewards:
All the VISITS will be offered with us, in collaboration with the farmers and producers participating in this project. They will be hosted during our 100-day tour of Catalonia, between August and November 2020.
The Private Dinner, Farm to Table Experience, Penedes Wine Tour, Gastronomic Trip, Exclusive Event and Farmers' Truck Experience can be claimed anytime.
All the rewards can be offered as a gift to a loved one, or transferred to someone else.
We highly encourage you to bring along your partner, special friend or family members with whom you want to share a unique experience! After being locked down, we're sure they'll deeply appreciate spending a day in the open-air tasting amazing food and wine ;)
What your contributions will be used for
We'll contribute 50% of the funds needed for this project. We need you for the other 50%!
This is how we plan to use our backers' contributions to the minimum viable goal of 12.000€:
Stretch goals
And if we exceed our minimum viable goal, we have thought of several additional goals to improve both the project and the rewards:
If we'd get to 18.000€ of crowdfunding, we will hire a professional video maker (or several) for some of the events and visits!
This would be ideal to create high-quality videos and to be able to post them more often!
If you are interested send us an email: hola@barcelonaslowtravel.com
This is one of our dreams: to produce a movie of the whole tour. This would be an incredible opportunity to share with a wide audience the importance of supporting small-scale local farmers.
Help us raise awareness!
