ATTENTION! Each person who acquires any of the rewards will also have an entrance ticket for a presentation mini concert, which will surely take place in Santa Maria del Camí (Mallorca). It will be the month of September and we will hand out the rewards before the album officially comes out.
Influenced by French House scene bands like Air, Phoenix or Daft Punk, as well as psychedelic pop movements in the 60s (The Zombies, Beach Boys) and contemporaries (Tame Impala, Temples), we started a project based on synthetizers rather than on the rawness of a rehearsal studio. In producer Fabi Bover's (Isla Iglú) home studio, with limited resources and for almost a year, we have been recording our first album: Imantisme. Eventually, it has been mastered by Hay Zeelen. We have opted for self-editing with Barcelona label Right Here Right Now (RHRN) and we need to be able to accomplish it.
Who we are
We are Marc Martorell and Jaume Roca, two Mallorcan indie music fans. Together we have formed a series of bands along many years. As well as musicians, Jaume is an English professor and Marc a biologist and a vocacional graphic designer -he has edited the videoclip and has made the logo and the design of the project.
The word “club” can refer to the 90s French House scene, to the Ibiza nightclubs or, rather, to the electronic pop that the italian colony in Formentera listen to. We could say our songs began to be composed in Ibiza during a Jaume's work substitution.
We recorded the videoclip without having the song. We suggested that the actors, the camera man and us spent a few days in Jaume's family house in La Savina. It is a coincidence that Aina moves with the umbrella at the same tempo as the beat of the single, Inevitable.
We had never experimented with synthesizers and maybe that has given us a touch of freshness. Our producer Fabi Bover had returned from Manchester with new resources and we entered his home studio thinking it would take us a summer... and it has grown into almost a year.
Where will we allocate your contributions
All the money will be allocated for defraying what a traditional record label would do: the edition, manufacturing, distribution and promotion of the album, as well as the manufacturing of merchandising. Actually, all this will be done by a record label from Barcelona, Right Here Right Now, specialized in assisted self-editing. What does it mean? In short, we (with your help) pay for their services and this way we are the owners of the songs and the album, so we have the freedom of making the decisions ourselves. Renowned artists in the Catalan music scene as Joan Dausà or La Iaia have released albums on this record label.
The budget will be distributed as follows (rounding):
Why do we choose microsponsorship? We would like to have the funds to carry it out ourselves, but the recording and the mastering -aside from other extra expenses- have already been a very large investment. Besides, the funding through a sponsor is a way to see the real interest in the project. Bringing forward an idea like this implies very big effort and dedication, and knowing that there is a demand eases a lot being able to do concerts (the promoters only see numbers, in the end), signing musicians to play live, or having the necessary amount of energy to give it time and illusion.
What happens if we don't achieve our target? We will continue to be happy, alive and kicking. Needless to say, your money will be returned. We are going to publish the album, probably manufacturing a run of CDs (but not vinyls) and our music will be available on digital platforms. We are going to do some concerts, or maybe not, and we will probably record more albums, but not at the pace we would like.
What if we overcome our target? If we are so lucky to overcome the initial target, first we are going to spend it on manufacturing more merchandising, as the budget we aim at is for a minimum volume of units. Second, when we reach beyond 6000 euros, everything will be allocated for the recording of our second album in a near future, as we have already talked about with our producer Fabi Bover, in his new studio in Santa Maria del Camí (Mallorca). There we will have first level equipment with which we will be able to work without technical limitations and with analogue quality.
The album will be entitled Imantisme, it will have 6 songs and 21 minutes of length. The order of the songs is the following:
- Astre jo
- Simfonia de victòria
- T'has deixat es lipstick
- Infern vital
During the process of composition, the idea of magnets (imants) -which is also a title of one of the discarded songs- was swirling around in our heads. The idea of the invisible magnetic forces that keep us united to the animated and unanimated worlds. This concept has been a nexus among the songs, in the shape of synthesizers as currents which transport in space and time.
Why 6 songs? We actually mastered 10 songs, but we have decided shortening the album because we want to release an album that listeners want to enjoy from beginning to end, not the usual album where you skip songs to only listen to the “good ones”. Plus, this 6 numbers are the same style, one we have managed to define: bright and fresh like the crystal waters of Formentera. And if you fancy listening to the discarded songs, they will be included in the demos and rarities cassette, together with other songs that could have been in this album, or maybe will be in the future.
Hey, 20 euros is a lot for a CD! Even that the materials used for the CD and the vinyl are of the highest possible quality and we have taken care of every detail, that the delivery expenses are included, and that they are signed by visionaries (ehem)... you won't really be paying 20 euros for a CD. You will be paying for making its publication possible, for it to exist, which is very different. 20 euros for a dream, 20 euros to support a band that sings in Majorcan Catalan and has Formentera in its name. We don't need to continue, do we?
Why do you put the discarded songs in a cassette? We are romantic, we love the little details that make life funnier. We could put these songs in a pen drive, or send them by email... but the sensation of putting a cassette in a cassette player, go forward and rewind and remember a time when we weren't enslaved by the internet and social networks fascinates us. The tape will last 40 minutes (20 min per side) and will be factory produced, with tracklist and professional printing. The design shown here is temporary:

We still have to define the format of the concert and the number of musicians, but at least the two of us are going to play. As the cottage is small, this reward is limited to 8 people.
If the crowdfunding target is achieved, the album will be released in September. The rewards will also be delivered in September, and we will try to make you receive the album before its official release.
