Three prisoners of conscience are confronting the system in a deaf dialogue.
Three prisoners of conscience: an art critic, a human arts activist and a humanities student, are confronting the system. But even as they’re aware that they’re fighting against a big wall, they can’t escape from it.
Patriotism 36-77 is Kairós Theater’s third play. We are making improvisations with actors using recycled materials to create the set design. We plan to have performances in many kinds of spaces, not just in a Theatre.

Theater group: Teatro Kairós.
Kairós is a Grecian word; talk about the time, but not the ordinaries instants, is your own time. In 2011 I decided to do my first play by myself in Cuba. Carlos A. García, a friend an anthropologist, gave it to me a play by the Catalans author Ángels Aymar. She wrote The Indian. For me was very important to work in a multidisciplinary project, cause I had to investigate with Carlos, about the Spanish colony and specifically the Catalans presence in the second middle of nineteen Century in La Habana. We did a version of The Indian, called The Returned. The International Agency for Cooperation and Development at the Spanish Embassy in Cuba was the principal sponsors, also The Public and The Caroline Theaters. It was impossible for me to keep my first team. Most of them left the country. In 2017 I decided to do The Enemies of the People about the last day in Fidel Castro´s life with Miguel Coyula a filmmaker, and theater director. During the premier we fought against the police and state security. We could do the show just for a few people at that time. Later we played at the Cuban´s places in Havana and also in Miami. For me is very important to build each project in a free way and always invite different people.
The Enemies of the People, is invited to the PerFoArnet Biennial to be held in Bogotá in October 2018.
The Enemies of the People, was presented last March, as a unique feature, in the house of Cuban actors in Miami.
Why to support Patriotism 36-77?
I´ve had been censored in my country, since April of 2017. First, the documentary Nadie, by Miguel Coyula had a police raid to prevent the screening in a private gallery. I was the producer and actress in the film. Later in November, we did a play: The Enemies of the People and same thing happened. Then I met Luis Trápaga, also independent artists, so I decided to write a play based in our experiences together.
We found Juliana Rabelo later, a humanities student and an actress.
Patriotism 36-77, was inspired in Edgar Lee Masters’ Anthology Spoon Rivers, too.
Parts of the references on the play are the testimonies of political prisoners or people who suffered persecution, into the Cuban Revolution.
Teatro Kairós are being part of the alternative Tania Brugueras´s Hanna Arendt Artivism Institute (INSTAR)
Despites we are working under pressure in Cuba, the independents artists are growing and stronger, that’s why I decided to do a crow funding for Patriotism 36-77, because is the only way, we can create in completely freedom.
The premier will be in September 29th. We can bring the rewards on October.
The budget destiny
Kairós Theater and the gallery The Circle are collaborating together. We´ve had been working for the last months, doing rehearses and producing with our own money, but we need to complete all the production. We almost produce the 60 % in total. We are dreaming to do a photography exhibition before the show. We have different formats and disciplines together, also video art as part of Patriotism 36-77.
To become an associate producer
If you bring 3000 $, we can invite you to be part of the project. That means if we travel with the play, we can invite you. Also have credits in the program. More info in email@example.com
