Project DANÁPHORE is the goal of our artistic residency in Centro de Danza Canal. With this project we want to create an international multidisciplinary production using Soundpainting to show a reflection about the human being and his atavistic resonance rooted in women as creators of life. The union between heaven and earth

The project consists in the formation of a group of dancers, percussion, txalaparta and voice about poems of Ángela Figuera Aymerich, including European artists of relevance in scenic arts. The artistic director will be the Soundpainter Ricardo Gassent. The project will count with África Morris and Elisa Morris as choreography assistants and Miquel Bernat as percussion coordinator.

Enter our campaign and you will be able to live special Soundpainting experiences as a patron of our new project! Take part in a special performance for patrons, get into Soundpainting in an exclusive workshop for patrons, talk with the artists and meet the creator of this language, come to see us in the premiere in Madrid and, if we achieve it, to Berlin!

The project is divided in three phases

First Phase

  • Creation of a dance troupe which forms the first dance company in Europe specialised in Soundpainting.

  • Training work with the percussion ensemble DrummingGP, directed by Miquel Bernat.

  • Work with Relate, our Soundpainting collective.

  • Work with actors about poems of Ángela Figuera Aymerich.

Second Phase

  • Add Stephan Meidel and Øyvind Hegg-Lunde to the project. They are two great free improvisation specialists from Norway.

Third Phase

  • We will be able to tour our project in Berlin, in collaboration with German and Spanish institutions.

Thanks to your support

  • We will be able to form the first Soundpainting dance company in Europe.

  • You will contribute to the development and progress of the scenic arts.

  • You will support Soundpainting, a new scenic arts experience in the vanguard of multidisciplinary contemporary creation.

  • You will participate in the cultural exchange between artists of different countries, which is necessary to create true structures and to build bridges of understanding.

What is Soundpainting?

Soundpainting is a sign language which is used for live composition with musicians, dancers, actors and visual artists.

It has a syntax which indicates Who, What, How and When should perform some material and the Soundpainter (composer) acts upon it, modifying and transforming the matter, thus creating a composition in real time.

Soundpainting was created by Walter Thompson in Woodstock, New York, in 1974 www.soundpainting.com

Soundpainting is currently spreading strongly across Europe and Latin America, with stable companies in France, Sweden, Austria, Mexico, Argentina, Bulgaria, Italy, Norway, Finland, England, etc. Our project is the main stable one in Spain and one of the most actives in Europe.

Who are we?

Soundpaintingmadrid is an initiative of Ricardo Gassent which begins in 2014 with the goal of spreading and developing Soundpainting in Spain. It starts with the goal of collaborating with diverse institutions, groups and people in the ambit of Soundpainting or interested in it, in Spain as well as in other countries, especially inside the European Union.

Since January 2015 it is "Resident Project" in Tres Cantos, with a firm support of its City Council to contemporary creation.

Soundpaintingmadrid bases its activity in "RELATE", a Soundpainting collective formed by a total of 20 artists including musicians, dancers, actors, visual artists and performers. It is a new model of company as well as an emergent company.

What are our accomplishments?

In the short time since its creation, Ricardo Gassent and RELATE have done several performances and workshops, including its participation in Sala Verde in Teatros del Canal, Medialab Prado, KODE 4 and Kusthall in Bergen (Norway), finalist in Talent Madrid 2016, Factoría Cultural and Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid.

Soundpaintingmadrid received in 2016 a grant from Emprendeescena program and a grant for the Support of Creative Start Ups in Visual Arts (Juan Entrecanales de Azcárate foundation), both from Factoría Cultural Madrid / Vivero de Industrias Creativas

Resident company in December 2016 in [Centro de Danza Canal (http://www.teatroscanal.com/centro-danza-madrid/) for the creation of a Soundpainting dance company.

Regarding Ricardo Gassent, musician and Soundpainter, his artistic interests led him to explore other artistic disciplines and in 2012 he started studying Soundpainting with Walter Thompson in Paris.

Currently, he is a Soundpainter with the multidisciplinary level certification (the highest possible level). In 2014, he creates Soundpaintingmadrid with the goal of spreading and developing this language in Spain.

He forms part of the group of the 30 best Soundpainters around the world. This group meets annually in a Think Tank to develop the language in the artistic level and also as a pedagogic tool. This year, the Think Tank was held in Milan Conservatory.

He has recently being awarded Resident Artist 2017 in the Cité des Arts de Paris in an artistic residence program organised and funded by Institut Français and the council of the City of Paris.
