Deeply in love with Catalonia and its music, Patricia Caicedo & Nikos Stavlas presented the concert De Catalunya vinc..., in the US & Spain with great success. Now is the time to make a CD to get this music to larger audiences.
For this reason we thought the next step in this process is recording a CD with 23 songs and a beautiful booklet in Catalan and English that includes all the poetic texts. In this way people from around the world will be able to understand the poems and connect with the meaning of the words.
So, this is how the idea of making De Catalunya vinc... Catalan Art Songs of the XX & XXI Centuries came to life and the reason because we need your help.
Helping is easy: you can make small donations and receive a reward in exchange. Just read on the right all the options you have.

THE CONCEPT BEHIND THE CD & ITS MUSIC
Thanks to the union of two powerful languages, music and poetry, the Catalan art song is a mirror in which society is reflected throughout different points in history. In addition to its poetic beauty, art song is a genre that has played an important role in the processes of constructing a national identity, evident in the use of text, theme, language, as well as musical style.
To illustrate the different styles and sonorities, and to allow the listener to connect the different moments through music, the CD includes music by two composers who wrote his works in the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries: Enric Morera (1865-1942) and Jaume Pahissa (1880-1969), and continues with some of the more bright and Mediterranean songs of Eduard Toldrà (1895-1962), typical of the noucentista aesthetic, all written before the civil war.
The CD continues with the Combat del somni a cycle by Frederic Mompou, written in Paris on texts by Josep Janés. As a symbolic thread, which connects postwar Mompou time with the postmodern Catalonia of the 21st century, we include the Cycle on poems of the Combat del somni, written by Carlota Garriga (1937).
The poetic texts of the songs are written by some of the most important Catalan poets, including such outstanding writers as Joan Llogueras (1880-1953), Josep Janés (1914-1959), Joan Maragall (1860-1911), Tomàs Garcés (1901-1903), Josep Carner (1884-1970), Trinidad Catasús (1887-1940), Josep M. de Sagarra (1894-1961), Joan Salvat-Papasseit (1894-1924) and Pere Ribot (1908-1997).
De Catalunya vinc... offers an essential journey into understanding Catalan culture, history, and sensibility. At different points in history, the art song serves as a mirror in which society and its values are reflected.
