Las lágrimas de África
Amparo Climent and José Palazón present the documentary film Tears of Africa where we will find through 40 drawings and letters, which were made in 2014 and 2015 by the Sub- Saharian inhabitants of the camp in Mount Gurugu and handed to Amparo Climent, during some of her more than ten trips to Moroccan territory. The feelings, experiences, fears and cry for freedom with which these men and women live, besieged by Moroccan security forces on a daily basis.
We will show unreleased footage shot by the director herself in the camps and those José Palazón has taken in the Melilla fence in SPAIN
Gurugu Mountain and Bolingo in Morocco are populated by camps in which hundreds of clandestine Africans, as they call themselves, are living, enduring an unsustenable situation below human with regards to physical and emotional conditions.
These are unique and exceptional documents, in which they cry their distress to the Western World to stop this injustice. We shall discover that behind those drawings, these strokes of childish appearance, made in any media they could get hold of, and with basic materials: scraps of paper, cardboard
boxes ... conceal moving stories and upsetting Letters where they tell us about their external and internal wounds which they gradually try to heal, and most of them have been inflicted by the Spanish and Moroccan security forces. Brutality and violence which show their scars and no one wants to be held responsible for.
Pregnant women who have travelled through Africa and who will dwliver their children in the worst conditions. Children who have lost their mothers on the journey and are being taken care of in the Bolingo camp by the rest of sub-
Saharians as if they were their own. The values of solidarity mixed with the business of the mafias.
Why do we need your cooperation?
All the work on research, trips, filming, creating the facebook page, twitter......only counts on the personal effort of the project manager, who has even invested her own savings in it. There is no group or organization behind to fund the work.
The aim is to cover at least the minimum expenditure involved in a project as this, which is so important and necessary, to carry on shootin and to be able to finish the documentary.
Thanks to your help a small team will be able to travel to Melilla and Morocco and climb up to the camps of Bolingo and Gurugú, to collect testimonies of the protagonists of this story.
Donations will be earmarked to:
• Shooting in Melilla and Morocco, including all travel expenses of three members of the team, accommodation and food.
• Shooting of interviews in Madrid and Barcelona of specialists, such as activists, historians, photographers...
• Costs of translation and subtitling. This documentary could have an international repercussion; therefore, it will be necessary to subtitle the whole film as well as translating it into the different languages of the State.
• Creation of a website, maintenance and activity in social networks**.
• **Costs derived from this crowdfunding campaign, such as commissions, shipping expenses and the production of the rewards that are offered: copies of the documentary, edition and authorship of the DVD, printing of the photographs, cards and original drawings...
About the rewards
Photographs
When we talk about “printed photography inspired in the project” as reward, it is meant an image of the jumps over the fence of Melilla or of the camps taken by Amparo Climent, or the famous photograph of the golf course by José Palazón, all printed and signed by the authors.

Here you are some of the drawings of which postcard format has been reproduced.
We want to finish the project at the end of September 2015. Rewards will be sent when the whole shooting is finished.
The projection of the documentary film will be held in Madrid, in a place that still has to be determined and of which you will be informed conveniently.

Who we are
Amparo Climent
Director and scriptwriter of Tears of Africa. Multidisciplinary artist with a degree in Fine Arts by Universidad Complutense in Madrid. Actress with an intense activity in theatre, cinema and television. In February 2015 presented the exhibition “Tears of Africa” and “The power of a look” at the European Parliament in Brussels.
José Palazón
Photographer and activist of the NGO PRODEIN Melilla, specialist in immigration and specifically in the fence of Melilla. Nationally and internationally known and award-winning because of his photograph “The golf court”, is one of the advisers and drivers of this project, providing images for the documentary that have been filmed by him.
José Manuel Conde is a composer and baritone and, together with Sergio Kuhlmann, who is also a composer and orchestra director, have developed musical projects involving theatre and audiovisuals. Internationally recognized, the y will create the original soundtrack of Tears of Africa. At the same time, they were also the composers of the music of “Recuerdos en el Jardín”.
Macu Sanz: Actress, composer, singer and writer. Author of the song Africanos en busca de libertad (“Africans looking for freedom”), used in the teaser to present this project..
Edih Salazar: Singer, composer and teacher, known because of her involvement in television programmes as a vocal expert.
In the film, she will sing Alambres a un nuevo hogar, a song that she originally composed for the exhibition The Fence. 100 artists at the Southern Border.
Exhibitions and European Parliament in Brussels
In September 2014, commissioned by Concha Mayordomo and Amparo Climent, the exhibition ¨La valla. 100 artistas en la Frontera sur¨ was presented in the Exhibition Hall Utopic_us in Madrid, in which more than 100 artists, poets, writers, singers, composers and philosophers participated in the creation of a special work which was donated for the project of the NGO VOCES..
All the money collected by selling the pieces of art, was earmarked to the maintenance of the Artistic Works School Jele Kosobe in Mali, which could be closed due to lack of resources. The exhibition was a public success and had a large effect in the media.
In February 2015, the drawings made by the sub-Saharans part of “Tears of Africa” were exhibited at the European Parliament together with the exhibition “The Power of a Look” in which photographers specialized in the Southern Border in the fence of Melilla got involved.
Expected calendar
In the case that the fixed quantity is exceeded, the money will be used for post-production costs including: edition, colour and sound correction, dubbing and studio. Following this, the rewards will be handed and the distribution of the work will commence in order to project the documentary at national and international festivals.
We are also trying to raise money with the support of public funds for audiovisuals, universities, NGOs and other public and private entities committed to human rights and the goals of this project. To attain more support for this work, it is vital that this campaign succeeds.
