Calçotada Wars is a quick game in which who eats more calçots wins. A group of friends gets together to make a "calçotada".
One of them sets a challenge to see who can eat more calçots (spring onions). They divide what they bought peacefully. But one starts being greedy and the attitude spreads. "Give me a bit of sauce, give me some wood". Now, you'd better take care that they don't trick you! Cook as many calçots as you can and eat them before the ingredients are gone. It is said you shouldn't play with food, but this is the exception. Let's play dirty to win!
2 to 6 players with game plays from 20 min to 45.
The goal consists in creating sets of calçots, starting with wood, which it is recommendable to have a high value. Right after you can set the fire to put a grill, some calçots and the sauce. If you can keep the value high until the end, you made a good job. If you decrease it just because you do not get the right card, it's ok, but what matters is the value with which you finish the series. Because the secret of good calçots is the sauce.
Remember: Eating quickly is as important as eating high value food bundles!
To get cards you can take them from the pile and from other players' hands. You can know what ingredients they have but not their values. You can take the risk and steal what you need, but if you create too many enemies you'll end up paying.
Cards like the wine jug and tweezers (attack cards) let you to knock out an opponent next turn or to take a card already played on the table. You can always defend yourself with a good slice of bread with tomato or an apron (defense cards).
The game contains a total of 110 cards, including ingredient cards and action cards. The right and necessary to set a battle with food at home.
If you want to know more details about how to play, you can see the INSTRUCTIONS or the digital file of the game at BoardGameGeek.
Because the spirit of concord is the main in a calçotada, ironically Calçotada Wars wants to cross borders to explain otherwise. The game has no dependence on language during the game (not including text in cards) and presents his rulebook in Catalan, Spanish, English, French, German and Chinese to make it playable all over and to present everybody this festive meal.
We think it is not enough exporting abroad this Catalan feast food. We want to do it because we love how you use your hands and move your head like a bird to gobble a large onion with sauce. But also we want to present it as a playful game! We think about bringing it to fairs like the Nuremberg in Germany in 2015 (January 28 - February 4). We can explain that a 'calçotada' turned into a battle is doubly fun, and a battle cannot be fierce if you eat onions.
We want to reward those who want to get the product in advance and become backers with special prices.
After the crowdfunding campaign, the game retail price will be 17,95€.

Oriol Ripoll (author specializing in games to educational projects, advertising, entertainment, media experiences, meetings and training experiences) will open the event where we will play the game and even you can find some gastronomic surprise!
To carry out this project, besides from our own resources, we have been sponsored by the company Conserves Ferrer that joins us in this adventure.
However, we decided to launch this new crowdfunding campaign for two reasons: one is practical and another emotional.
The practical reason is based on helping us achieve funds to move forward with the initial expenses, which are not few.
The emotional reason is that it reminds us that Catalan Games (with the project La Puta i la Ramoneta was born thanks to the patronage and support from many people. If you like this new crazy idea, please join!
What we obtain in this crowdfunding will be used in:
30% graphic design and illustration
39% initial costs of production and promotion of the game
10% shipments
21% taxes
Since the graphic design phase is already completed we are able to launch it directly to production without delay. This will shorten significantly the production time and we really believe that the game could be ready to send in mid-November. It can be an excellent Christmas gift and so may also be present in calçotades the next year!
Catalan Games was born in 2012 with the aim of creating different fun from genuine Catalan themes. The first game, "La Puta i la Ramoneta: el joc de la política catalana" sold more than 2500 units last Christmas season. We promised their patrons to send copies to the Catalan Parliament to pressure politicians to abandon the attitude we explain in the game.
Surprisingly enough, the catalan president Artur Mas played the game a few days prior to decide the date for the independence referendum, but we will never know if the game pushed him to make this last step (who knows!). Now, Catalan Game members are committed to a new project which shows the benefits of a Calçotada and to turn it into a fun experience for all the calçots meal fans.

Hola David,
