ABOUT US
We call ourselves The Shoubiñas Experience and we are a band based in Vigo, Galicia, Spain. We are six crazy music lovers: Rock & Roll, Blues, southern rock, hard rock, metal, and eclecticism.
Our journey began about five years ago when several members of the band got together just to have fun and play covers of groups we admired. Over time and after several lineup changes, we began composing out our songs and defining our personality.
Spurred by the welcoming response from our audience at live events, we took it a step further and, in the summer of 2013, we decided to record a demo live at Metropolis Studios in Vigo, a rehearsal venue, with four of our songs... At the time we could not foresee what the future was holding...
WHY DO WE ASK FOR YOUR HELP?
We recorded this demo just as a keepsake of our adventures and to be able to demo our band at some venues. However, at one point it reached Philip R. Newell (co-founder of Virgin, and producer and sound engineer who worked with Led Zeppelin, Queen, Mike Oldfield, The Who, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Jethro Tull, Duke Ellington, and many others).
We could not believe our ears when heard Newell's response to our work. So one day we finally muster the courage to meet with him and ask him to produce one song. Before we could realize it, we had recorded an entire album with him... What an awesome experience it was!!!
It was a unique opportunity for a band like ours, and now we must deal with the expenses involved in producing our first album in the most professional way. Despite the importance of the project, we're a humble little group and all expenses come out of our own pockets.
That is why we need your generosity. To carry it out in full.
Just to give you a rough estimate: the cost of renting the Metropolis Studios, soundman Fran Alvarez, the fees of the producer, the voices in the chorus of Broken Peach, cinematographer Alberto Lora, and Charlie Casado illustrator, responsible for the album artwork, already exceed 7,000 euros.
If we add the disc mastering and manufacturing of CDs and vinyl discs, T-shirts, badges, stickers, promotion... It will most likely reach 10,000 euros ... And we, as a band, cannot stretch our money that far.
WHAT POINT HAVE WE REACHED SO FAR?
The title of the album will be "A Home Called Metropolis". At the minute it is fully recorded, and we are just awaiting the final mixing and mastering.
Once completed, the first batch will be manufactured and hopefully released sometime in January 2015. However, if our Verkami crowdfunding effort is successful, we may be ready for a full release before the end of 2014.
This is where we need your support.
The main reason why we are launching this crowfunding and asking for your help is because the costs have got out of hand. To be able to achieve an optimum final result, we have spent many ours working in the studio and we have employed resources that were not available to us at the beginning of the project. Even in the face of such a big investment in every sense of the word, we are very proud of our work and want to share it with everyone to enjoy. Even right now we can tell you the result is worth the effort.
From the beginning we knew that embarking on such a project without any planning it could get very difficult, but it is worth every effort... Who would say No to such an opportunity?
