Sometimes people speak and ideas are born. During 2013, Julia Cadiach and Gerard Baquer, Ultimate players from the mixed club of Mamadiadors in Tarragona (Spain), let their imagination flow and started discussing the idea of a Frisbee team and a van. Right then and there Nomadisc was born.
The basic idea of Nomadisc was to travel and meet new teams abroad. However, the idea changed quickly when we realised about the power of Nomadisc. The project needed to be spread and shared in order to reach out the largest number of people. That’s why we decided to make a documentary
The Nomadisc has three main objectives:
Introduce this sport in schools, colleges and universities so youngsters can get to know it and at the same time get involved in the values of Ultimate. The documentary will play a key role in this whole process since it will graphically demonstrate all about the sport.
Use this documentary as a powerful tool to widely spread the sport of Ultimate and contribute to its growth and expansion.
Let Europe know about the growth that Ultimate is currently experimenting here in Spain and particularly in Catalonia.
ULTIMATE
Almost all of us know about the existence of that round plastic thing called “frisbee”. We tend to associate it with 90’s kids passing it around at the beach and energetic dogs going after it just to catch it with their jaws. What not all of us know about is the existence of a sport called Ultimate built around this flying disc.
Ultimate is a competitive non-contact sport that’s played in teams with a flying disc.
The annotation system is pretty similar to the one used in American Football. Get the disc to the opposite end zone and you get awarded with one point. You are not allowed to run nor walk while having the disc in your hands so your only way to make it get to the end zone is by passing it around. If the disc touches the floor you lose possession of the disc while your opponent earns it.
One of the main characteristics of this sport is the high importance of the “Spirit of the game”. The concept of “Spirit of the game” (aka “fair play”) is present in most of the sports played nowadays but in Ultimate it receives a very special consideration. Matches are played with no referees so it is the players’ duty to call their own infractions and fouls. Once the match is over each team will grade the opponent’s spirit. Winning the “Spirit of the game” award is one of the highest recognitions that an Ultimate team can aspire to earn.
This sport is really popular in USA and Canada, where there are many professional players and leagues.
WHAT WILL BE INVEST YOUR APPORTATIONS IN?
These 3000€ we are willing to raise will cover the production of the documentary. If we get more money than the initial budget we will invest it in promoting the sport in educational centers.
