BalKaBarNa came from the need to create a reference at local level, although internationally oriented, to promote mutual understanding, communication and collaboration between bands, associations and various organizations, cultural projects and other social groups based in Barcelona whose activities are influenced by Eastern Europe.
The idea rose from an interest in the music that comes from the various Balkan traditions (Yiddish, Slavic, Turkish, Roma and other cultures typical of that region) that was observed emerging in the cultural landscape of the Catalan capital in the last few years. The scene is enriched by local bands that make reference to popular Eastern European repertoires and groups formed by musicians coming from countries such as Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia or Turkey present in our city.
At BalKaBarNa we want to consolidate this movement through an annual festival, that offers a journey through time and space across the various regions of the Balkans and Eastern Europe, through their music, closer to traditions or projects that are close to other rhythms, such as electronic or latin.

Hola!
