CALDERON GRIS PROJECT. The study of Grampus griseus population as Climate Change´s Bioindicator.

Risso dolphin is one of the less common marine mamals on de Mediterranean sea because normally they live in tropical waters. This species is totally unfamiliar to most of the south east spanish population.

Every year it is more common to see communities of this species all over the Mediterranean sea. That means that they are changing their behavior, probably because of Climate Change. For this reason this species is a good BIOINDICATOR for aiding the study of Climate Change.

The second part of the challenge is to teach the new generations to be responsible and get involved in the new conservation standards.

Unfortunately, the administration cannot afford the cost of researching and teaching new generations how get involved, so we decided in 2012 to begin to raise money from ecotourism activities. The profits from the activities go directly to pay costs for research. For this reason we need your economic suport to collect more data.

WHERE ARE WE WORKING?

This is Murcia´s coast. Here we collect data from our ECOTOURISM ACTIVITIES.

WHO ARE WE?

We are a team of scientists with a large background in marine wildlife conservation and navigation.

  • María José Rosique López: Marine Biology Degree, Dive Instructor, Skipper and Master in aquaculture by Universidad de Murcia.

  • Carmen Guerrero Segura: Enviromental Science Degree, Skipper and Master Degree in Education, Universidad Miguel Hernández.

  • Idoia Chicoy García: Marine Biology Degree, Captain, 2 Star FEDAS DIVER, Master Degree in Mediterreanean Enviromental Mangment, Universidad de Murcia.

  • Ricardo Villalba Briones: Marine Biology Degree, Master Degree in Wildlife Biology and Conservation, Napier Edinburgh University.

  • Astrid Bloemen: Veterinarian Degree, Master Degree in Animal Walfere.

  • Susana Alegre Morales: Marine Biology Degree, Professional Diver, Skipper, Master Degree in Aquaculture, Universidad de Murcia.

SCHEDULE

The activities will start in April 2016 and we hope to collect enough data to open a new research line in 2017 with the University of Murcia about cetaceans in this part of the Mediterranean.

ABOUT THE PICTURES

If you have decided to buy a picture, you can choose whatever picture that you like on this list. The photographers, Barry Antel and Idoia Chicoy García have donated those pictures to raise money for the projects. They were taken during a sailing trip from Florida (US) to New Zealand between June and December 2015.

After you make your selection/s you can send an email to [email protected] to say what picture/s you prefer, and we will send a high resolution file to you by email when the campaign is finished.

    Hola Fuensanta,
