BREAKING CHAINS

The title is inspired by a line from the national anthem of Catalonia: "When it’s convenient, we cut chains.

BREAKING CHAINS is a social-political intriguing film that will show you the current situation in Catalonia through the story of Sergi Dalmau, a London-based Catalan computer expert.

The leading actor returns to Barcelona to visit his mother and after seeing and feeling in his own experience the situation of ordinary people he decides to act for his country and the collective dream of the Catalans.

Making use of his knowledge and old work contacts, Sergi will execute a political action that will provoke an international conflict and will leave the Spanish government in a very delicate situation.

TEAM

Famous actors and actresses like Toni Alban, Michael Sitjar, Ivana Miño, Txe Spider, Mercedes Llorens, Quim Masferrer, Jordi Martinez, and Oscar Intente among others are involved in the project.

Jordi Rediu and Fabià Rubio are the producers; and Antoni Verdaguer, is the director and screenwriter. BREAKING CHAINS has used valuable input from the journalist Salvador Cot, the sociologist and economist Salvador Cardús, and the philologist Jaume Cabre.

HOW IT WILL BE FILMED

The visual treatment is characterized by the use of Red Epic, high quality film cinematographic camera, Drones (aerial images) and the innovative movie stabilizers that will provide a different view of Catalonia obtaining a film with a high quality image where aesthetics are important, yet never leaving aside the basic story. Below you can see an example of our last two productions.

WHAT IS OUR CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY?

To be part of the visual imagery of Catalonia and to collect images of the political and social situation we have been experiencing in recent years.

To present our country and our political situation to the rest of Europe and the world through a channel as powerful as cinema.

Making real, in a fictional film, the dream of many Catalans to have the right to decide the future of Catalonia through a legal democratic referendum.

Contribute to Catalan cinema making a film of high technical quality of great historical interest.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE?

To be the first fiction film which tells the process of Catalonia's independence that will become possible by our collective collaboration. We understand that's the only way it makes sense to consider this project.

THE AMOUNT REQUESTED BY VERKAMI AND WHAT THE FUNDS ARE USED FOR.

Things are changing. Many sectors are reinventing themselves and the film industry has yet much room to do so. We believe in a system of cooperative participation, films can be made with smaller budgets using this successful model. Therefore, our budget is below 300,000€ and we ask for your participation to reach 100,000€. We're working to raise the remaining budget through private investors.

LET’S BREAK THEM TOGETHER
