Aurora is not the main character. It is what everybody expects to see in northest north. Bóreas means north and Aurora is the name for the dawn goddess. A dawn that does not exist in a place that challenges usual time structure.
In Raufarhöfn's June there is nothing else but day. Daylight during the day and daylight at night. There is wind from the Arctic, few inhabitants and a story that seems to show the decline of a village that does not even belong to the main road of Iceland.
Mabel is a young film-maker who works in the script of her next short film. She has a few elements to work with, but they generate her a big pressure: it will be shoot in Iceland, where she has not been. It will deal about the non existence of future, a theme that she wonders about constantly, and she has barely five months to finish the script. Mabel writes and writes, but she does not find the story that she really wants to tell.
One day Mabel realizes that the only true story she has is herself's, and takes the risk of not writing the script of a plot that will be about the withdrawal of control and the huge experience this entails. She will let the story emerge itself in a location equally huge, Raufarhöfn. A village of unknown future opposite Greenland Sea, where the only thing existing is the present.
Aurora is a fiction short film structured in two acts. The first one will have as a stage the district of El Carmen in Valencia city and the second one will be the Icelandic town of Raufarhöfn, northest point of the island and belonging to the Arctic Circle. It treats about a story which deals about the process of filming creativity. It is an experience of honesty and withdrawal which shows us the conflict present vs. future leaving the door open to something we do not know yet.
The CREW is formed by three adventurous friends eager to keep learning. Three allies that did not have a doubt to leap into this experience for art's sake. Almost at the last moment, we captured an enthuastic Paco who will accompany us in the shooting in Valencia. And many more people is part of this project, whose names we do not know yet.
MABEL FUENTES. Script, direction, performing and editing.
CHEMA DE LUELMO. Camera and direction of photography.
PAT LEMOS. Production and artistic direction.
PACO CAÑAVERAS. Sound technician (filming in Valencia)
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR LITTLE HUGE HELP
We count on a small support coming from the university sector as logistical support provided by the international volunteering organization Worldwide Friends. We also have everything necessary for filming in Valencia, but we need to arrive, at any cost, to the centre of the Earth. That is the reason why we have thought about you to be able to assume both crew and equipment shipping budget to the island (basic destination to the metaphorization of the script and shortfilming) and to make the film become a reality.
SCHEDULE AND REWARDS DELIVERY
The filming will have to phases: the first one will take place during the next month of May in Valencia, and a second one will take place in Raufarhöfn, Iceland, during June 2013.
July, August and September will be the turn for editing and postproduction. At the beggining of October, Aurora will be on our hands. We will prepare an special premiere this month for the patrons, taking the opportunity to share and discuss our experience. From this month and always before the end of the year, you will have recieved all your rewards.
MORE ABOUT “AURORA”
A friend proposed to Mabel to participate in a feature film formed of six short films. The general topic, future. An essencial visual element, the sea. Aurora arises from this push and the irresistible urge of its director to continue making films.
The filming of Aurora will become a pedagogical project towards the world of cinema creativity for Worldwide Friends' international volunteers. They will cooperate in the configuration of the short film and will learn about the audiovisual world during twelve days of the coming month of June.
In October we will make several projections of the short film and we will begin with the distribution phase applying for different competitions and festivals throughout the world. We will share the journey with you through Aurora's facebook page.

Hola Nora,

Me puedes anticipar algo?
Gracias

Hola Lola,
No, no te equivocas.
