WHAT IS THIS PROJECT ABOUT
BRICK SKIN is a dance short film, an Integrated Dance short film, directed by Filmmaker Ferran Audí and devised by Choreographer & Performer Jordi Cortés. It tells the story of struggle and survival skills of a group of people (who could be any of us) who for very different reasons have suffered an accident, a "vital fall". Now they have to recover from it, they have to be reborn: they wake up; they mysteriously find themselves trapped in the old and abandoned textile factory Fabra & Coats (in Barcelona). The characters, now in different rooms, lost amongst the dusty machinery, walking along empty corridors, warehouses and patios, eventually bump into each other. They all face the same personal challenge: to overcome their differences, to get to know one another with courage and determination, and together take a journey back to life, through Dance and Metaphorical Movement, in order to finally rediscover who they’ve really now become. Their movement starts like an improvised set of steps coming from within despite themselves. This dance will take them closer to the others until they are “reborn”, they find new vital energy and overcome their fall.
The performers featured in BRICK SKIN belong to the group of Integrated Dance Liant La Troca, and many of them suffer from some type of functional diversity. Still, you will find that nothing can stop them!

SOCIAL ISSUES
This film wants to raise awareness of the social exclusion experienced by many people with some type of functional diversity or disability. Today, there are still a lot of people who do not consider it possible that someone who moves in a wheelchair is suitable for a particular job. The very existence of the wheelchair makes them consider any such person entirely unfit. That’s not only a gross mistake, it’s also very disrespectful. In Alta Realitat we can bear witness, thanks to the constant interaction we’ve had with people with functional diversity, of the enormous capacity of people with disabilities to surprise and thrill us with their intensive creativity and joy. BRICK SKIN, stands for total SOCIAL INCLUSION.
That’s why we also need your help!
WHAT'S YOUR CONTRIBUTION FOR
BRICK SKIN was shot entirely in late 2012 at the Fabra & Coats, in the Barcelona district of Sant Andreu.
Your money will entirely be used in the postproduction of the film, editing and sound, until we reach the final product ready to be shown to an audience. The editing will cleverly and poetically mix the different dances and moves our performers have made in front of our cameras in order to offer a unique palimpsest about the power to struggle and to evolve we all have inside us.
No instrumental music will be used, only a complex symphony of sounds and noises (typical of an abandoned factory), combined together with the natural and organic sounds of the performers as they move, in order to offer our audiences a very suggestive soundtrack.
Colour will offer a wide palette ranging from natural colours to moments of intense light tones and chiaroscuro, creating a look very similar to that of the teaser you can see on this page.
In these ways, we hope to enhance the fantastic elements of this amazing and wonderful story.
CALENDAR
If we arrive at the requested funding, post-production will begin in late May and carry on through June.
Together with Directors Ferran Audí and Jordi Cortés, film editors Bernat Aragonés (from Barcelona based postproduction company APUNTOLAPOSPO) and Marc Mittenhoff, responsible for the editing of the trailer you can see on this page, will reassemble for a month the more than 50 hours of footage we into the final 20 minute edition of BRICK SKIN.
In the fall of 2013, BRICK SKIN will be distributed to national tour and international Festivals and TV stations all over the world.
ONE LAST MESSAGE
We sincerely hope you join us in this little production with your contribution and would like to thank you very much beforehand for your time and attention. We are convinced that, all of us together, we make a stance for to those in our society who still have quite a way to go on fighting for their rights and win the respect of all. We truly believe that making this happen is the best way also to make a stance for all of us.
Many thanks to all!
