Who we are:
This project consists of an independent short film that explores the depression and polarization that lead to social media addiction, and its relationship to depression and isolation. The project aims to raise €2,000 to cover equipment and pay the artistic and technical crew.
We're two 20-year-olds based in Madrid. This year we founded our own independent production company, Prophecy Productions. In 2025 we made our first fashion short film with a small budget and a small crew, but it was a real start. Now we're working on our next project, and we need help making it properly.
This story revolves around a character who suffers the polarizing effects of social media addiction, caused by an underlying depression that distances him from his close friends. Our main references and inspirations are: Yi Yi (2000), Y Tu Mamá También (2001), Call Me By Your Name (2017), Los Detectives Salvajes (Roberto Bolaño), and the films of Luis Buñuel. We're not approaching this from the outside. We're in our early twenties, we've grown up with this, and we wanted to make something honest about it instead of another superficial story.
We are NOT using generative AI anywhere in this film. Everything (writing, shooting, editing) is done by us and our crew. It's a decision we're sticking to, both because of what the film is about and because of our values.
The plan:
Our goal is to shoot before November 2026. We're setting up a collaboration with film students (ECAM) in Madrid and close friends, so we can mutually benefit from Madrid's underground film scene.
What your contributions will go toward:
The money goes toward two things: equipment, and paying the people working on the film. We don't think people should work for free on something we're asking them to put real time into.
Expected timeline:
Part of the shoot will take place in October/November, and the rest around early summer next year, since parts of the story take place then. As for delivering rewards, we plan to send them out once the project is finished and you can watch the completed film. After being promoted at festivals, the project will be published on YouTube.
We want to work in film long-term, so this isn't a one-off project for us. We believe there's value in telling stories that truly reflect how people our age think and live. €5,000 covers what we need to make this properly, without cutting corners.
If you have questions about the project, the budget, or anything else, ask us. We'll answer.
