In the west of Ireland, on a desolate and inhospitable moorland, a large solitary house stands. There lives an Old Man, removed from the world.

Devoted to routine and silence, he writes a diary as his only way of ordering his thoughts and memories. The local peasants say that he is mad, perhaps because he keeps to himself. To his own mind, he is nothing more than an ordinary man living in calm. And yet, at times, the stillness of the house seems to conceal something that lurks in the darkness.

That place, that figure, and that silence give this project its name: Kraighten.

Kraighten is an independent horror feature filmed in English, fully developed and produced by KURAWORKS. It marks the feature debut of director Dani Alías.

The film tells an intimate story of solitude and obsession, where horror is not an end in itself but a language through which human fragility is explored.

It is a project built around atmosphere, organic world-building, and the gradual construction of tension as essential elements. Its aim is to immerse the viewer in the same isolation that surrounds the Old Man, not only to witness the story but to feel the weight of space, time and the unknown.

  • Shot in a real isolated house.

  • Natural lighting: ambient light, candles, fire.

  • A visual approach built from the reality of the space.

  • Sound design that blends real sound with atmospheric layers.

At the beginning of the 20th century, an Old Man lives in isolation in a large house set on a moorland in the western Ireland. His existence is reduced to routine, silence, and the writing of a diary in which he attempts to give order to his solitude.

Beneath this quiet calm lies an absolute, primordial horror. Something that lurks in the deepest depths and slowly erodes his reason, until his isolation is transformed into an oppressive experience in which reality becomes entangled with presences that defy it.

Kraighten is inspired by the novel The House on the Borderland (1908), written by William Hope Hodgson. A relatively little-known work, yet a decisive one in the history of the genre: within it lie the early seeds of atmospheric, cosmic, and environmental horror that would later inspire other authors of the genre.

This film does not seek to be a literal copy of the original story, but rather a modern cinematic reinterpretation. It offers a contemporary perspective while remaining rooted in a more classical, organic form of horror. It reclaims the isolation and strangeness of the source material transformed as a work of fantastical horror with folkloric roots.

Kraighten is currently in pre-production, with filming scheduled for November 2026.

The goal of this campaign is to strengthen the resources needed for production and ensure the film can be made with the artistic and technical quality it requires.

Contributions will be primarily allocated to:

  • Art direction, set construction and props.

  • Makeup design and practical special effects.

  • Production expenses during filming (catering, transport and logistics).

With your support, Kraighten can be brought to life with the level of detail and care its universe demands.

We want those who support Kraighten to become part of the project. For that reason, we have created a series of physical and digital rewards that allow supporters to follow the creative process and keep a tangible connection to the film’s universe.

These rewards will be delivered in connection with the film’s private pre-release screening, or in the period surrounding that event.

KURAWORKS is an emerging production company focused on developing film projects with a strong visual and narrative identity.

We were founded with the intention of creating author cinema rooted in attention to detail and aesthetic coherence, embracing stories in which setting and atmosphere are essential to the narrative.

Kraighten is our first feature film and a natural evolution of that creative path: an independent production built with care, intention, and commitment.

KURAWORKS is driven by a team that has been committed to the project since its earliest stages of development, with every artistic decision shaped by a shared vision.

Dani Alías - Direction and script

Independent director and creative. His work explores the relationship between isolation, identity, and environment, crafting narratives in which atmosphere and space play a central role.

After founding KURAWORKS and directing the short film GOSEI, he approaches Kraighten as his first feature film, expanding his creative universe into a broader and more ambitious narrative.

Álvaro Dueñas - Production

Producer involved in editorial fashion and fiction projects, where visual identity and aesthetic coherence are essential to the creative process.

He produced the short film GOSEI and has been part of the core creative team at KURAWORKS since its early stages. On Kraighten, he oversees the production structure of the feature film, ensuring that the project’s artistic vision is supported by a solid and well-organized foundation.

Tarik Rahim - Sound Design

Multidisciplinary sound artist and independent musician. His work spans solo projects and collaborations across ambient music, post-punk, and experimental sound.

He composed the original score for the short film GOSEI, beginning a creative collaboration that now continues with Kraighten. In this feature film, he shapes the sonic universe, approaching sound as a narrative dimension capable of transforming the perception of space and the viewer’s experience.

In addition to the core creative team at KURAWORKS, the project is supported by a technical and artistic crew assembled for the production of the feature film.

Every story begins in silence.

The threshold has opened and Kraighten has awakened.

We invite you to cross it.
