Korona: A fast-paced, tactical card game for 2-4 players

Korona is a fast-paced tactical card game where each player grows their own little kingdom by raising structures, recruiting characters, and attacking opponents. Your kingdom develops as cards stack together, unlocking greater strength and higher scores. Use clever plays and action cards to defend your realm or sabotage your rivals, as you build the most valuable tableau before the deck runs out or victory is claimed by knockout.

The game looks as sharp as it plays, with a vibrant visual style and matches that clock in at barely 20 minutes. Compact and quick to set up, you can take it anywhere and play even on a towel by the pool! The visual style stands out for its lighthearted illustrations that bring medieval characters to life. In the Catalan edition, the roster is inspired by charismatic figures from the Crown of Aragon, such as Peter IV the Ceremonious, James I the Conqueror, Eleanor of Sicily, or Violant of Hungary. But the kingdom doesn’t stop there: from knights, archers, farmers, and healers to jokers and mischievous thieves, everyone is part of Korona’s colorful and fun cast of characters.

When the dust settles, only one player will wear the crown!

⚔️ 🛡️ How to play

The game’s goal is to assemble the most effective Build card sets in your play area to score the most points or be the first to complete an instant victory combo! Build cards are placed freely, either as standalone cards or stacked with others for optimal scoring, following each card’s stacking rules (Farmers on Fields, Archers on Towers, Knights on Stables).

A stack may grow only up to its maximum size:

• Ruler pair (2 Rulers)

• Healer pair (2 Healers)

• Full Knight set (1 Stable + 2 Knights)

• Full Archer set (1 Tower + 3 Archers)

• Full Farmer set (1 Field + 3 Farmers).

Jokers and Thieves may be used within any of these stacks to help complete them. Jokers complete sets normally, while Thieves can be sent to your opponents and score –10 points each.

But nothing is ever that simple, no kingdom rises without conflict! Cards are limited, the most powerful ones are rare, and the battle to control them is constant. Action cards are your weapons: use them to strike your rivals, disrupt their tableau, or shield your own from incoming attacks. Every card you stack and every structure you raise can mean the difference between glory and defeat. Even the way you build and stack your Build cards acts as a passive defense, making every single decision a key tactical move.

👑 End-game

The game ends when the deck is depleted or when a player triggers an instant victory. When the cards run out, the player with the highest total score wins!

Alternatively, a player can win on the spot by completing any of the 3 instant victory combos (Healer combo, Military combo, Production Combo), which are specific set of cards that grant an immediate win. See the game manual and the Summary card below for more details.

🌍 Additional Editions in Catalan and Spanish

In addition to the standard English edition, you can also get the game in Catalan (Crown of Aragon edition) and in Spanish. These versions feature the exact same gameplay; the only difference is that all content (cards and manual) is in the chosen language. Additionally, the Catalan edition features unique character designs inspired by the Crown of Aragon. Select the Catalan or Spanish language option on Verkami to see these editions in more detail.

Korona is a personal project by me, Adrià. Among my favorite games are Brass, Nidavellir, Endeavor Deep Sea, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Faraway, Naishi, and Terraforming Mars. I created Korona with the goal of designing a card game you can take anywhere and play anytime, quick to set up yet offering strong tactical depth and lasting strategic engagement for all types of players.

💰 Use of funds

Your contributions will be used to fund the production of the game, structural campaign costs (taxes and Verkami commissions), and shipping expenses.

The Verkami campaign will end in mid-March, so your game will be shipped to you in April.

📅 Timeline

The game is fully written, illustrated, and laid out. Several prototypes were printed a few months ago for playtesting, which has now been completed and proved one thing: the game is fun, tactical, and a bit ruthless. Everything is ready to begin distribution;)
