FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE LA GAITA - VILLAVICIOSA 2025

Once again, Villaviciosa will become the heart of folk music from September the 4th to 7th, thanks to the FIG, an event that celebrates the richness of our musical tradition, culture and most importantly, our way of life.

Thanks to Nieves González ,this year's standout item, the kerchief has become more than just a simple accessory, it's a symbol of identity, pride and passion for our culture. But it is not only the kerchief, our T-Shirt, our tote bag and the rest of our merchandising is also filled up with love and soul, so that you can feel part of something that is truly yours.

This year, we are going all out for Asturias day, we offer a jam-packed program and plenty of surprises you won't want to miss.

Who are we and what do we do?

We are the Banda Gaites Villaviciosa - El Gaitero founded in 1986. over the course of our 39 year-history, the band has brought Asturian music and culture to every corner of Asturias, many parts of Spain and to numerous countries across the American continent. Helping to spread Asturian folklore internationally.

For the past 20 years we have been organizing the FIG (Festival Internacional de la Gaita), thanks to the dedication of our band members, volunteers, the support of local businesses, and cider makers from the region of Villaviciosa.

Thanks to everyone's hardwork, the FIG has become an annual event that people eagerly look forward to. Being one of the most important summer tourism drags of the region, gaining more and more recognition across the Iberian folk scene and beyond.

Why a Crowdfunding campaign?

The FIG has long been a pillar of Asturian culture, an explosion of music, tradition, and celebration that fills the streets of Villaviciosa with life every september.

In 2025, we want the festival to keep growing, to feel more alive than ever, and once again to touch the feelings of everyone who believe in culture as a force for unity. But we are also aware that late years have been tough, production costs have risen and we are committed to maintaining a free, inclusive festival with a top-quality program, without loosing what makes it unique.

That's why, thanks to the amazing support we received last year, we have decided to launch this new crowfunding campaign. Because we believe that culture belongs to everyone, and that with just a small contribution from those who believe in the festival, we can once again bring the streets of Villaviciosa to life the way they deserve.

By taking part in this campaign, you’re not just supporting the festival: you are becoming part of it.

The FIG is designed as a living stage to share a whole cultural universe that revolves around our star instrument: the bagpipe. Totem, cultural symbol, and faithful companion to our history, the bagpipe connects cultures across Europe and is the undisputed icon of Asturian heritage.

In recent years, we’ve expanded the festival to include all forms of artistic and cultural expression related to the bagpipe: top-tier musicians from Spain and around the world, artisans, luthiers, educational and historical talks, book and research presentations, (Asturian vocal music) tonada contest, "Nueche en Danza", traditional dance classes from Asturias and other regions of Europe, Cider festival, folk vests artisans...

To summarize: a whole world of culture with a bagpipe beating at its heart.

All funds raised will go directly to the developement of the festival.

The festival features a full cultural program including concerts, talks, exhibitions, "Nueche en Danza", bagpipe band festival... And much more!
