This picture was taken in 2005. Maarten Swaan had just left Holland to venture to Guatemala, where he met Annie Goodchild. This would be the start of the band Melou. His life as a physical therapist was over and made place for the life of a traveling musician.
In the 4.5 years of their existence, Melou recorded 2 full length albums; "Communication" and "Battery Park" and toured throughout the USA and Europe. After Melou played their last show in 2009, each one of the members followed their own path.
Maarten ventured to Barcelona, where he wrote and recorded his solo albums "Write me Notes" (2010) and a year later "Broken Bike". He and his band with Xavi Molero (drums), Miguel Serna (bass) and Claudia Gomez (Piano) toured the past year in Holland and the USA, where they started to make plans to record their 3rd album of 14 songs; which off course will be recorded in the Whatabout Music Studios with producer Dave Bianchi in Barcelona.
After the break-up of Melou, Maarten and Annie always remained in contact, and throughout the years, played a handful of reunion shows. They even started writing new songs again when they visited each other. This collaboration can be found on the upcoming album! Annie will fly into Barcelona from her home in Basel, Switzerland to record vocals on 4 or 5 songs that will be included in this album! Good things never fade away!
The new songs that will be on the album are going to be more organic sounding, meaning, we will try to keep the sound of the instruments and vocals how they really are. We will be looking for beauty in the pureness of the sound. The songs will be influenced by many bands such as the Beatles, Coldplay, Iron and Wine, The National, Bon Iver and Fiona Apple.
We can't give away too much, but the vibe of the album will be diverse, from up tempo to lullaby- like songs you can dream away to.
We haven't found a name for the album yet, but that always comes to us in the process. We will keep you informed on any news!
With your help, the album recordings will start March 16th and will be released "online" May 9th, 2013!
We are asking for your help in funding this project. Music is not a profitable business, but music is what we do, and where our heart lies. It is our contribution to the world! With your help we can make this album come true! This is your chance to be apart of that!
