Dear friends,

I’m thrilled to introduce you to Daniel, a fictional medium-length film where the protagonist must face the challenges of his daily life. Together with his inseparable neighbour, Yaya Pepita, originally from Andalusia, they share their evenings having dinner in the dining room, around an old and beautiful table.

The script is already written, the artistic team is ready, the music producer is eager, the editor is working as a waiter while waiting for the filming to begin, and cinemas are calling me to ask when it will be ready for release. So… let’s get started!

The goal of this campaign is to make the filming of this medium-length movie possible with your support and to ensure that the film reaches audiences everywhere. And I’m certain that, if you feel inspired, together we can make it happen!

The Root of the Project

The origin of this project lies in the need to share some of the emotional experiences my brother lived during his life. Although it is neither a biography nor explicitly about his experiences, I wanted to create a character for the film that made me feel he was part of it.

My brother passed away a few years ago. He had a mild intellectual disability, and yet, despite the challenges (including the overprotectiveness of my mother and myself in trying to shield him from life’s difficulties), he achieved things we never could have imagined. It was thanks to his own determination and resilience that he managed to overcome the obstacles in his life and feel fulfilled as a person.

In Daniel, the protagonist has Down syndrome, and the reason for this choice is quite simple: I saw Sandy (Alexandre Jordà) as the lead in a short film, and I was so captivated that I thought, "If I ever write a story, I want him to be the protagonist." And now, I hope this dream can come true.

Who We Are

We are Jordi Rafel, a photographer and screenwriter from La Bisbal d’Empordà, and Sergi Blanch, from La Tallada d’Empordà, co-director of a film production company. Together, we’ve created several short films, such as Papel Mojado and El Sabater, among others.

We love stories, people, and experiences. Taking an idea, sharing it, working on it, producing it... We love seeing them come to life on a screen, in a cinema. Now, we’ve embarked on the journey of Daniel, which, so far, has been an incredible adventure!

What fascinates us most is meeting the people who help us bring this project to life: from the artistic team like Sandy, Dolores, and our music producer Jaume Pla (Mazoni), to the catering team (Isa and Anna from Cafè Bouquet), to Patri, a hospital clown who will run "clown workshops" with the cast. And Maria Saltor, who will support the actors during filming. This journey is full of people united by a single goal: bringing the fictional medium-length film Daniel to life.

What Will the Funds Be Used For?

The medium-length film Daniel will have a runtime of approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Producing this project requires significant funding, and through this Verkami campaign, we aim to raise 70% of the budget, with the rest expected to come from other sources, such as grants.

Our goal is to raise €16,000 to cover the following expenses:
• Approximately 30% will go toward taxes (21% VAT) and Verkami commissions (7%).

The remaining funds will be allocated to:
• Photography and sound equipment (camera, microphones, sound recorders, cables, lighting equipment, camera filters, etc.).
• Art (sets, props, costumes, makeup, etc.).
• Technical and artistic team.
• Production (travel expenses, meals for the team, script copies, etc.).
• Post-production (editing materials, color grading, sound editing, and post-production).
• Other (campaign rewards, distribution, etc.).

Planned Timeline

The project’s schedule is as follows:
• October to December 2024: Pre-production.
• February 2025: Workshops conducted by Patri, a theater teacher and hospital clown. These workshops will focus on acting, improvisation, dialogue, games, and, most importantly, fostering connections between the artistic team, even if they don’t share scenes during filming.
• April to June 2025: Production.
• June to September 2025: Rewards distribution.
• June to September 2025: Post-production, including editing, color grading, and music.
• October to December 2025: The Premiere!
